I'm torn, 17H, 222,223???

All very annoying to me as really don’t know what to do myself and going to have to make some difficult decisions and to be honest ignorant of the facts, but made a cunning plan needing some fine tunip.

Am thinking with the copper thing will a 17 rem become not worth the bother along with the sainted 222 of which I have both and love, thinking it all may go pair shaped bought a 223 with the thought others may become semi obsolete and have to do the unthinkable and just have the 223 for fox control and take a dive on the precious things.
Know for a fact am going to begrudge using a 223 though probably the practical thing to do given circumstances or possible miracle

If I had to choose it would be the 222 you can get non tox or lead quite easy, shoot any muntjac, foxes, head shoot rabbits out as far as you like and very cheap to feed especially if you reload

Hi Overlay,
I've not shot any foxes with them in the Hornet yet.
Been using them in the 22 Fireball at ranges from 25 to around 50 yards. No exits and no runners, but they're going around 3500/600 fps.
I'm fitting the Hornet with nv before foxing with it.

PS. Forgot to say, i used Hornady 50 grain SP on 2 foxes, 35 ish yards and both through and through. 3070fps.

I well remember the time I bought my first centre fire rifle as a youngster. My Gunsmith recommended a .222. Bless you Frank! Over the years I have never ever wanted for a different centre fire, from magpies stoats mink crows sqirls rabbits pigeons hares foxes & deer, the .222 will slay them all. Over the years I saved my factory brass, reloading is cheap too! Get one.

Here is an interesting diatribe by Gun Blue, a very knowledgable old timer from the States. If you can stay awake & have the time, a very interesting but long winded tale of the .222, particularly about the .222 vs the .223 debate. I concede that the .223 has the advantage in so far as bullet weights & twist rates. The .222 was designed for a flat based 50 grain bullet head. I use a Norma soft point 50 gr sp bullet head for most of my deer & fox shooting, but its not too explosive on rabbits & hares. Its a one size fits all, hellish expensive though. If I was shooting thousands of rounds for vermin or target I would look for a cheaper alternative. I mean what's 56p when there is a deer in the freezer, or a dead fox in the ground. Or both.

Come a lead ban how will those from Britain who visit Africa to hunt go about zeroing / regulating their rifles before a trip.
And I am working on a lead based projectile being the preferred/required bullet

Let's suppose one has a big bore double rifle where finding the right load that regulates correctly is not a simple case of;

"Buy the ammo when you get there "
