KAP Suzuki Jimny Jeep

We’ve just swapped to road wheels to get ready for its mot and to save fuel and tyres for winter

The difference in looks and handling is remarkable
I’m looking forward to putting the fat tyres back on in September

Now that is very interesting

This looks like you can have the floaty tyres and then swap for something more road sutable

Is that right ??

Absolutely, any serious road distance planned gets a swap of the wheels
I thought about towing a micro camper on holiday with the crop sprayer tyres in the trailer until I get to a decent off road country like Norway!
It takes about twenty minutes to swap over and the power driver, tyre compressor and trolley jack fit behind the seats and I keep a few cans of tyre foam for those oh f@ck moments
I would prefer a spare but haven’t needed one yet although I’m looking to lose the alloys and road tyres in favour of four steels and some decent dual purpose boots

My only reservation is the load bed is a bit small. I wonder if they do extended versions?

Can u not import Jimmy pick ups? I'm sure I seen some in NZ a while back, be 10 yrs or more. But it was a newish Jimny

I sure suziki used to sell lwb pick ups here years ago, would be back in the SJ410/413 days, 35 odd year ago.
i was just a kid bit im sure the EFG had 2 painted that orange? colour. Thats really going back in time.
Looked a handy tool.
Mind we got our 1st 4wd after seeing them up there, a 410, cracking tool but a horrible back seat can still mind the pain of the journey back from Huddersfield? ( Colin appleyards) sitting on the rear seat all the way.
Horrible little things on road too

Thats the same with any 4x4 most folk reckon u lose about 5mpg running off road tyres.

Yes they used to import the SJ series with a pick up option but the old and new Jimmy is only offered in car or van format! KAP has converted a new model for the RNLI beach lifeguards

You lose more on the floatation sets than normal off road tyres and the comfort and control levels are improved using more normal tyres

Unless vehicle is a Jeep, it is not. No Jimmy is a jeep. Spoken as a old school jeep owner , experience with MB models from 1944 to CJ2A 1946, CJ7 1985.

The RNLI jobbies also have the inside cab floor and bulkheads done in a plastic spray on substance - forget the name

A friend of mine is a techie for RNLI - he recommended it - I think I'll go that route too

As for imports - I know of no import that can compete cost wise with £10 grand for a newish car

Besides - I want mine rebuilt, not someone else's vehicle

PS - you can stick the US Lewis jeep where the sun don't shine

On another tangent, this is an option for a small imported pickup. Standard ones can be had for about £6k+. Low range gearbox and can put ATV wheels or tracks on them.

I'm sold on Japanese imports after buying a mint 2008 Jimny import.

On YouTube there is a series of videos of cousins who’ve converted the supercarry into brilliant off-road campers and shoot wagons! I sent a clip to Darren at KAP and he was impressed

Get him todo it on a lwb vatara, could have a longer bed then and bonus of a diesel if you can run on red

Impossible. Jimmy has no soul.

We could say the same thing about American English :)

No seriously

What ever it is called, the jimny (which I used to ridicule as a hairdressers 4x4) is one of the most efficient standard off road vehicles

Not a great tow-er

Not ideal for exped

Doesn't carry a great deal

But will go where most won't

And most importantly, doesn't break down every 2 minutes and doesn't cost the earth to run

The biggest problem with Jimmy's is the small size.
If they were just 1ft or even 6" longer make a big difference.
I imagine having the solid bulkhead ull lose a bit more space in the back.
Me, dad and brother have owned countless 410s, 413s and Jimmy's, great tools.
But 1st thing we always done was strip the seats out to get as much space as possible.
my last 1 was a pre reg 54 plate, used to could buy them brand new pre reg for 7k, bloody great value at that money and stayed at that price for years

Can this company extend them slightly?
Thats why I thought of import route to get a pre made lwb version.

There is a company that will do an extended rear tray

I don't know the name of the firm, but they are UK based and do much the same as KAP

Does affect the departure angle though

there is no perfect solution

I looked at them and was impressed but they weren’t easy to get hold of
Darren always seems to have time for a chat even if it’s to call you back later

Take a look at a toysuki......

It’s a jimmy that has been made to look like a 79 series land cruiser 😎

Apologies for the diversion in the thread but I think you will appreciate the vehicle 👍
