Does everyone “tunnel” the anus and other gralloch questions!

100% this :thumb:

One aspect in which Scotland is far behind is removing the anus and bladder in the field, complete without contents spillage.

IMO, if you are bringing pellets into the larder, and the anal tract + bladder still in the carcass, you are doing it wrong and have never been shown or bothered to learn the correct way.

Can't have quality venison when contaminats are everywhere.
A friend of mine who is a contractor in Scotland said that he takes all his deer back to the larder with anus and bladder inside.
Once at larder, aitch bone is cut, prised apart and bladder/anus removed. He said this is the way fls wanted them done.

Here in God's kingdom (Scotland just in case you didn't know) the vast majority of game dealers want chest and aitch bone.split if you
Split the bone its easy to remove the back passage only time I tunnel is if I have had to leave a carcass out overnight (something I try to avoid if at all possible) leaves less to attract corvids.
Complete opposite with my game dealer, we risk rejection or penalties for doing that technique.

it is a good way for MJ as with a full bladder the room for error is v small the late night head torch tired poking around with a sharp knife is a recipe for an empty bladder in 2 seconds.

More stuff to carry but has anyone ever tried one?

The less I take out shooting with me the happier I am, too much stuff is just a faff.

The old chap who owns the farm I stalk on uses one - never seen such a mess quite frankly & pretty much useless on anything smaller than a mature fallow! One piece of kit I can certainly do without thank you.

I did see some other vids after where instead of it coming out like a turned out sock it just ripped it up and contaminated the insides.

They are the lurid kind of thing one oft’ finds in the “Bargain Bucket” at Mole Valley Farmers Cooperative.

reminded me of one of my old threads

It’s
The carcass could be condemned here if theres poop floating around the cavity or if its full of forest litter.
I lift everything out in one go and do it all on the ground.
Tried one of those butt out things once, left it with the guts and prayed that it’d choke a fox.
It’s what a hose is for. Sorry, I’ll get my coat!

OK

Here's the thing.

I recently bought a really good set of knives, off a member on here. It came with a load of extra 'goodies' and I was delighted with the purchase.

However.

Included in this package was a 'Butt-Out" - I am never going to use it.

In the interest of fairness, happy to offer it in the first instance to the OP @4616Oxon - if he does not want it, then anyone wants to field test it - it's yours.
Butt-out 🤦🏼‍♂️ half useful to hammer into a lawn to tie up a small dog but other than that…

Anal tunneling a complete waste of time. Just ease pellets forward and backward out anus from inside pelvis… then break off tract internally
