.20 VARTAG

Morning - my Gamekeeper friend has just bought a .20 VARTAG rifle. He’s asked me to help him load up a proven recipe as given to him by the rifles previous owner.
So far there’s no issues, but he wants to move from the 40 grain bullet to try a 26 grain Barnes Grenade bullet. Of course, QL has no info for ‘wildcat’ calibres, so we are at a bit of a loss where to load to.
Has anyone here reloaded this calibre and have they any data that could be shared.
Powder being used is N130, barrel length 19.5” 1/10 twist.

Interesting that you chose gramms instead of grains…
it’s about time Quickload had a facelift.. I have an old version but doesn’t have the latest bullets, such as Sierra 130gr TMK’s.

Why in the earth choose to such a light bullet? . Better to stick to a 39 or 40. Better availability and not so fussy on bullet placement. Assume it will be a foxing tool.

GRT is showing 16.8gr N110 for the 26gr for 4,092fps/46.5Kpsi @ 1.8551COAL but I agree with Cyres. 40gr probably the better bet.

With my VarTarg I found the Berger 35g performed exceptionally well with the little case.

Sorry for that. I usually work in grains. This table seems to have ignored my preferences. Bastard.

Issue will be availability of bullets. 39 BK and 40vmax available. Bergers not so. Ed has large stock of 39BK. 40 V max much cheaper.

I tried the Vartarg but prefer the 221 Fireball (Parent case for VT) as a better all rounder, and it’s deer legal.

The prev owner loaded 32gr Blitzkings with it v successfully.

It’ll be a while before I load up this particular load with the monometal. Starting with 39 grain Blitzkings first as that’s his primary need.
I’ll keep SD informed as it goes along.

I just found the first stumbling block yesterday - my funnel is too big for this case ! New one ordered.
