Mucked up my renewal - going to be expensive

You did read the first line of the original post, didn’t you?

Does it say 'they got in touch with me but I ignored it?'

Perhaps we get a better service in Scotland vs the various counties of Englandshire whose service seems to depend on their respective Sherrif Chief Constable...?

Find another RFD who won't take the **** with charges like that, even if you have to drive a bit. I've had rifles stored before and never paid anything even close to that absolute extortion!

Shouldn’t matter, I don’t think the 8 weeks guidance is law….so, ask them for a section 7 and tell them you cannot afford to store all the firearms for the length of time required.
Not their problem and not a reason to issue a S7
If it wasn’t such a gridlocked archaic procedure he wouldn’t need to store them.
Nowt to do with the system, the OP left it to the very last minute, if we want a less gridlocked system be prepared to pay full cost for grant and renewal.

That’s debatable as some areas were able to process grants and renewals at less than charged for!
Not sure if a full survey has been done for ten years but two forces were exceptional at turn around and costs!

Hi Spandit,
I don't suppose you are a BASC member?
If so, give the Firearms team a call and they may be able to speak with the Licencing Manager about the lack of reminder, and that it should be a renewal.

NB: Other shooting organisations are available but not sure if they have a similar team / function.

Sadly not. I haven't had official word it's not a renewal but the fact my forms were in before expiry I'd say is pretty definitive. My guns are (or will be) legally held by other people so I'm squeaky clean just out of pocket

If the application is in the day before expiry it’s a renewal.
This was amended some time ago. Minium of 8 weeks for a renewal. Some forces are flexible but not a chance when it's a day before. It's all set out in the guidance hence some forces send out renewal packs some 6 month prior to expiry. All communications between fld and certificate holder are inputted onto the nflms.

You would like to think so but times are tuff and many RFD premises are already gridlocked with unwanted firearms they have either taken off someone’s FAC, but with no commitment to purchase, or are selling said kit based on a healthy commission percentage.

I contacted my FEO and was told he was away until tomorrow. At least this way I'm not in illegal possession

To the best of my knowledge, I've had no reminder. Apparently Surrey (who now cover Sussex) say it's the holder's responsibility

Afaik you have to be invited to reapply as YOU cant apply early. This means in my mind that unless a reminder WAS sent its your flds problem

Pretty sure this isn’t so.
When I renewed at the start of this year I simply printed off the forms from my FLDs website and filled them in. Submitted them 3 months early (before receiving the reminder) and it all chugged through as normal, if you call an automatic 2 month extension/delay on the renewal normal that is

Not quite, I always send my paperwork in 14 weeks before expiry, this used to be the max time you could put your application in, now we have the doctors letter to contend with I'd get that ball rolling six month before expiry

No invitation never has been. A reminder is sent out around 6 month prior to renewal. In addition some forces will call you and ask if you are going to renewal they dont have to but some do. The problem in this case is not the fld it's down to the individual
