22/250 ammunition for vermin control

I wonder if someone can help me with deciding on which brand of ammunition to run and what would be the lightest round I can get away with for vermin control,my rifle is a remmy 700 calibre 22/250

I have always run my 700VS with 50 or 55gr bullets.
It is accurate,it bucks the wind at usual ranges,it works.
No need to go hyper velocity on 40gr pills IMO,been there.
It just plain does the job with a bit less powder,and potential barrel wear.
Although mine works fine.

I reload always, but used Federal and Winchester SP cartridges in the past.
They were good enough.

Crow through to fox,they won't care what it was.

It very much depends on what your rifle likes and I’m afraid the only way of knowing that is to try a few different ones.
Without knowing your twist rate, all I can offer is that my 1:14 T3X is quite happy with bullets from 40gr to 55gr, I haven’t tried anything either lighter or heavier.
The 40gr were Federal Vmax and produced excellent groups, I tried quite a few different brands in 50gr, most were great but the odd one wasn’t, and Hornady 55gr Vmax which were also great.
The best by far, but unfortunately the most expensive, were the Norma 50gr Vmax, clover leaf groups at 100yds.

I have since taken up reloading and have had good results with Hornady 50gr Vmax which are flat based and also with 55gr Blitzking which are boat tailed.

ive shot 22-250 for nearly 40 years 50 gr or 55gr you dont need anything else go get some 55gr vmax and enjoy bs

Agreed, my 700, loves 50 and 55’s, handloads but I am sure factory would work as well

What are you trying to achieve with the lightest exactly ? I ask because you might well find your goal going further away by just going for "the lightest"

One of my good friends only uses PPU factory.
Full time 'keeper in Hants.
They are good enough for the money.
I get the brass!

Yeah , but why the lightest ? We only have assumption to the end goal you seek by using lighter bullets so far This situation might be better handled with a reduced power load and a highly frangible bullet designed to expand fully and fast at lower speeds . If you dont re-load and dont wish to start there are RFDs that will create and make you the ammo you desire .
What are you aiming to shoot at on said golf course ?

I suppose what I’m looking for is a cheap round to buy and use I do shoot foxes from time to time but also I shoot a lot of crows with it

You might serious look into loading yourself and a different choice from 22-250 in the longer term . 17 or 22 hornet are normally sold in 25s and 22-250 in 20s . if you get into loading these rounds can be made with very limited tools the max capacity in powder is around 30-35% capacity over a 22-250 .
I wont be able to go into great detail here , though on the loading process i have in mind but you can message me . you can get your money back very fast. You dont need a big press and a load of room either

Alot of cost in the long run. Running it for vermin all the time. What sort of ranges are you shooting out to ? With the 22/250.

As you dont reload. I would get a cheap secondhand hmr. Of course depending on the distances you need to shoot out to.

With components costs and scarcity you are better using PPU 50 grain and pairing up with a mate who reloads when you have a good stock of empty cases!

My 22 250 is a 26 inch 1-7.75 twist.

It works fine with 40gr factory, 55gr sako game heads circa 3550,and more recently 53 gr yew tree TLR using rs60,pootling along at 3730fps
