Muntjac shoulder mount reccomendation

Hi all, I recently had a client shoot a munty buck that they would like to get mounted. I have it caped out in my freeze but would like to hear recommendations on taxidermists. I’m located near Ludlow, and as much as I’m not afraid to travel, it would help if they arnt ridiculously far away. Thanks in advance, Connor

You can list frozen with lots of ice filler. If so, I’d recommend Colin Scott in Roberton. He charges £600 for a munty with 50% deposit up front

I used Dave Hornbrook in Guisborough for mine, but he's a couple of hundred miles from you.

Another vote for David Hornbrook. He has alot of awards under his belt and does fantastic mounts and they will be completed in under 3 months if he hasn't got much going on. Usually around 2 months. He has done a Muntjac shoulder mount for me, as you can see below. It was done a couple of years back. I'm also due a fox mount next week from him.
He did my Muntjac including shield for £360 plus postage.
I posted them to him, he posts back.

You want it frozen on the day it was shot, to prevent hair slippage, same as you need to with furs for rug making. I either send with Royal mail or Parcelforce, on the best 24hour service. I keep it frozen until the morning of sending. Firm cardboard box, couple of thick bin liners lining it, I insulate the box with lots of bubble wrap too. Get the specimen out the freezer, bagged and then I foil wrap the bag. Pack it all tight and seal well. In this weather, it should still be frozen the next day when received. Good time of year, now onwards, for posting!

Gary Knight did a good job of mine- posted it to him 👍

I Follow Gary's work, it's really top stuff and would recommend him too. However at the time of last asking him, his waiting list was about 12 months before starting the work. He has many customers and rightly so.

The fox is now back from Dave Hornbrook. It was my grandparents victorian mount, decrepid and parrot chewed.

It looks fantastic now. Re-masked on the original mannequin with a fox I shot earlier in the year.

Hi don’t know if I’m two late seing this but I’m from Ludlow my self and my taxidermist I use is from Builth wales Justin Bateman 2lookalive wildlife art I’ve currently got a muntjac there my self but I’ve got a fallow I can show you

Some really poor mounts here. A couple have teeth mounted on the wrong sides .
Dave Hollingsworth is the man for the job . He has done several for me.
Absolutely spot on .
I dont see any wrong tusks in the photos above? I do agree with the mounts though I think just in general no one understands how to do muntjac or CWD makes sense though when we've got europe and aussies doing red stags, fallow, roe(eu) etc but not a single one does CWD/Muntjac way less information for them.

What we get for having niche species sadly!

I agree they are the right way around. They point outwards as they should/naturally do. If they pointed inwards, they would harm themselves and have no use for them.

I would also be interested - any taxidermist recommendations in/around Hampshire?
Just don’t use freedom taxidermy (Claire fowler). Had a less than positive experience with her and a CWD a few years ago, to this day I don’t actually think she did the work herself, convinced she farmed it out or got the apprentice to do it, but whatever, I’ll never use her again after my experience.

Nowthen.
I don’t want to teach grandma to suck eggs , but the mounts shown , are pretty much rubbish .
Dave from Pennine Taxidermy really knows how to mount them.
I have a Buck in my garden every morning who says that his teeth turn down and not out .Plus one on the wall watching me.

You shoot yourself in the foot by saying that nobody knows how these deer should be set up.
In my area we shoot hundreds each year and know what they look like . Please stop guessing , it does nobody any good.
