Best book to film production

Having watched most of the Foundation series it really is the most terrible interpretation of such a great trilogy I think I have seen

It got me thinking about the best and worst. I think my top two best interpretations are
Lord of the Rings and Dune. Both exactly as in my head

Any other recommendations for either category?

For all that they left large chunks of the narrative out, I thought both Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit captured the spirit of the originals very well (excepting the needlessly gratuitous “love interest” in the latter).

The only other film translation that comes to mind as reflecting the original book is “Far From the Madding Crowd”, but that might just be me being blinded by Julie Christie as Bathsheba Everdine!

Lord of the Rings has to be up there in the top few for anyone, surely ?

Worst ruination of a damned good read when transferred to the silver screen has to be Stephen Kings "Dark Tower". How the $£&% did they ever think that they could convey even the essence of 8 whole books in one film and have it make any sense ?

The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared is better as a book than film, but really only because the book has the opportunity to go deeper into detail and background info. It's still a fun film :)

'Do Andriods Dream of Electric Sheep' - ' Blade Runner - Directors/Final Cut' (not the rubbish cinematic cut or the terrible 2049)

"Call me ishmael" ! is up there for me with some of the best others like the Crawl sea and many of the old B&W English made films from yester years.

"We were Soldiers " lt Col Hal Moores true story of the Ire Drang battle.
I think its 1 of Mel Gibson,s best films imho.
And totally agree about the fiasco that was " The Dark Tower shocking 😲.
