Anyone had any experience using a .30cal 150gr TTSX for driven boar?

If not then has anyone witha Blaser r8 .30-06 got a load they have used and worked well in the past?

I use a Blaser R8 in .30-06 for driven boar as well as UK stalking. I’m afraid I can’t help you with 150gr TTSX on driven but I have killed a few UK boar with 130gr TTSX and loads with 150gr Fox.

When in Croatia on driven I use a home loaded 180gr Norma Oryx which have been great. I would be happy using 150gr TTSX if that’s all I had.

Its quite similar to all the other bullets around for driven boar, used it from my .308, but only killed around 20 using that bullet, had a few with bad expansion, but still got the beasts.
In the old days i used RWS H-mantel, and thats a lot better bullet for driven hunt than TTSX, but it contains lead.

Switched to RWS 165grain driven hunt cartriges last year, and i feel they expand a lot better than TTSX for the quick close range shoots.
For the future i will keep using the RWS round nosed driven hunt cartriges.

A lot of good designwork on bullets have happend over the last 15 years since lead was banned from state hunts in Germany.

I would suggest a soft point bullet, circa 180g for driven, they will give you a better chance of dropping a boar, with a little more headroom, if the shot placement isn’t ideal.

A lot will depend what bullets you can get hold of, but the Norma Vulkan is an excellent bullet for boar, if you can get them. Try speaking to RUAG to check stock, and if they have, see who they deal with in your area.

The Geco 170g soft point would also be an option, and their ammunition is reasonably priced.

The problem is: Where are you still allowed to use Lead, most places lead ban is active, and within the next few years i think lead will be banned the last few places where it is still allowed for driven hunts.

This is for driven boar, so will be abroad, where I have never been asked the weight I'll be shooting, let alone if the bullets are lead, or not.

For Andrew, the OP, it's presumably for an upcoming trip, which may, or not be a one off, and he just needs something easy to get, and that he's confident will work, so he can enjoy the trip.

Bullets containing lead is banned in 90% of German driven hunts, 75% of driven hunts in Poland, 75% of driven hunts in Hungary, 50% of driven hunts in Latvia, 50% of driven hunts in Croatia.
75% of driven hunts in Sweden and Norway, 100% Lead ban in Denmark from new year.

There are simply not a lot of places left in EU where lead bullets are allowed. Personnally i dropped lead bullets 2012-2014, when they started to ban lead on more and more of the driven hunts i used to go, in Germany, Croatia and Latvia.
I think there will be a 100% lead ban within EU within the next 3-5 years.

I live in Denmark, Here lead was banned in shotguns 20 years ago, now we use mainly steel shot, and from new year 2023-24 lead is banned for hunting in rifels. I reallety only very few have been using lead bullets in theier rifels the last couble of years, because we Danes tend to go hunting across EU, ist much easyer without lead bullets. After all its bad to travel a long way, just to get banned from shooting because of some ammunition issue.

I know you are still allowed to use Lead bullets in UK, but remember, when you travel to a driven hunt in EU, is will in most cases be up to the individual hunting manager on the spot to decide if he wants to allow lead or not.

There is a chance of a spot inspection, why take the risk? Lose the drive you are booked onto, go look for an outlet not too far away from you invite, get frowned on when you get back.
Last January the Hungarian police were all over the hunting areas on alcohol checks.
