Shane MacGowan

Hear hear, couldn't agree more. Only saw him once - open air at Thetford Forest - great gig. I happened to be standing beside the guy who manages Energy Orchard's Bap Kennedy - we had a good old chinwag before the Pogues came on.

I was fortunate to see the Pogues a few times in their heyday....the energy and excitement was unique. RIP Shane, and thanks for the memories.

Genius right there, not without his demons but that seems to go hand in hand with that level of genius sadly. As others say, contributed a whole lot more than most will ever realise musically, incredible talent

Rip Shane, as others have said, he was much more than a Christmas Song, Would still be great to see the song at Number1 for Christmas however.

As a student saw the Pogues several times and was at the Town and Country in 1988. Quite special.

In later life with the Popes, the alcohol had really took hold and recall seeing them when he was simply unable to get through the set and they were off after 35 minutes. Such a shame.

A real poet in the tradition of celtic wordsmiths.

Think tonight I’ll have a couple of glasses of Paddy and stick ‘The body of an American’ on the speakers nice and loud.
