Lets see how the BBC gets out of this one !!!!!!

I don't see it as particularly a "political" issue as such, in that if it was a Labour government in power making these decisions he would have challenged that too. It is the sitting government that is being challenged, irrespective of its leanings.

So what you’re saying is no one should be allowed to take legal action against a sitting government?
Seriously ?
One more time; No one who works for an (allegedly) impartial state broadcaster should. And yes, works in this context means employed, self-employed, sub contracted, whatever.

My problem is with the *BBC*, not Packham. Either he walks from his contract and takes HMG to court, or he refrains from political campaigning whilst pursuing a career in 'public service broadcasting'. It's really that simple.

That puts you firmly in the minority , so in the arena of public opinion, yours is wrong.
I'd be very, very careful taking that to its logical conclusion, especially as someone who presumably on SD, kills his own dinner.

I am sure you act deliberately dim. When complaints have been made to the BBC about CP's political Bias they say he is a 'contractor' - I am interested to hear whether a contractor can go too far with his political comment and remain an employee of the BBC - satisfy you ?
No one is dim, but if you cant make a post without insulting a fellow member of this site, your light in the SD world will become dim. And eventually go out. If members cant be respectful to each other, either don't respond or leave.

So, CP is trying to raise money again to pay his scumbag solicitors ( Leigh Day, look them up) to represent his views again.
A few days ago he was criticising Ant and D*ck about cruelty to insects, or such like,...I dont really know as i dont watch them!
The point is i noticed there was quite a lot of negative commets about CP from the public on FB (and not just from the shooting community)
I have said before that he is getting more extreme in pushing his views and the public will grow tired of his grandstanding.
Give him enough rope...

@udderlyoffroad

OK, just for you - because I am trying to sort out my admin. for getting my .416 to Africa and ...you know the rest - consequently, I need cheering up.

This is what we used to call in my old game, a 'clue'...

it sounds to me like he is trying to hold the gov to account. how any one can think allowing the gov to make promises then not actually do them is a good thing seems odd to me.
following on from the above comments should a bbc reporter be able to ask questions of a politician or accuse them of lying?

That is something of a supposition. However, it is a fact that he didn't ever challenge a non-Tory government in court over such policies and the last Labour government didn't even have any commitment to net zero at all.
The recent set of Tory governments have been the greenest government's we've ever had. Packham has legally challenged them on a range of matters while being content not to with Labour in charge. The outcome of his behaviour is indisputably political whatever motive you project onto him.

“Chris Packham has filed a high court legal challenge to the UK government over its decision to weaken key climate policies“

How is it supposition? He is challenging the UK government not the Conservative Party.

The question is, should that be publicly funded rope? According to their own rules, no.

He presents wildlife programmes. He is not an presenter of Newsnight or the Today programme. His remit is not to hold the government to account. His remit is to explain the mating habits of crested newts in an educational manner, preferably with as little anthropomorphising as possible.

Uhhhm, no.

This is what we used to call in my old game, a 'clue'...
So...he's a carrot?

I think that explaining this point is likely involve going so far back to the most elementary explanations as to not be a worthwhile use of either our times.

Holding government to account, in keeping with his supposed punk ethos. And like the original rock n roll swindle, somebody somewhere is getting paid. He's a crook, as are his lawyers.

I am disappointed that you chose to be so critical publicly, given the years I have been on this site and the fact that the reference is to "acting deliberately dim " - if you have to act dim you are not dim but doing it for a reason.
I have 'endured' much harsher sentiments from other members who have never been sanctioned in any way.
Yes, I do take it personally.

All in all, maybe its time for a period of withdrawal from posting. Clearly I will not be missed. So to others who have helped me - thank you and goodbye, good stalking.

i think this will change nothing within the bbc

Matters not , how long anyone has been a member of this site. The rules have always been the same, and all we ask is that everyone is respectful. Not too much to ask for really?
