Dropped a b@llock - FAC renewal

Evening all, been a long time since I posted but I have a question.

For various reasons (major house renovations, busy at work, busy with family, nightmare with eldest kid), I have essentially had a shooting sabbatical and didn’t attend my club for a year. I went up and collected my annual membership card but never actually shot, so I don’t have any shooters cards registered for 2023.

I am wondering how buggered I am going to be when I renew in July this year? I am going to be picking up on the target rifle, mini rifle and practical shotgun. But have I left it too late?

Any advice would be great!

Yeah unfortunately: on suitable ranges, and only while a member of xxx. Membership was maintained but attendance lapsed… No open or quarry conditions

As said above just get out as soon as you can, how long is left on your ticket? I wouldn’t be too worried, I’d have thought it would be more of an issue if you had a rifle conditioned for vermin and hadn’t been out in a year, they could argue at that point you don’t “need” it.

Is your FAC for target usage only? Did you do any shooting at all?

It would depend on your clubs annual renewal date, but it is usually the case that the local FLD would be advised of a member that did not shoot at least three times in each membership year. One of the reasons to have the register. That is the nominal to show good reason.

Shouldn't be an issue, especially if you can shoot a couple of times between now and then, but expect the question at renewal interview, if not a phone call from your FEO before then.

Section 12.53 of the Guide on Firearms Licensing Law should cover it -

No, you are not, have a read of the guidance, it specifically states along the lines of absence / none use for a year due to things such as illness, house renovations etc. is acceptable and should be taken into consideration.

You’ll be fine.

They may not even check with your club, my kit didn’t last renewal!

The Met are asking my club how many i have attended this year and also the farmer where i shoot and how many times i have shot there.

So good luck

Get back to your club & register some use of the rifle(s) & be open & honest with the FEO when he asks the question - focus on the combination of house renovation/work/family & then say how pleased you were to be able to get back to ‘normal’ & have time to go shooting again. As a ‘one off’ it shouldn’t be an issue.

July is quite a long way off.
Why not write to your FLD now and request live quarry be added to your certificate conditions, and then book some outings between now and July, or get a permission of your own somewhere?
