I was in the same situation a few months ago - I was reading reviews, asking people, looking at stats and info.Hi
I am looking to buy a 6.5 Creedmoor not sure which one to go for an expert opinion will be much appreciated.
I am stuck in between Tikka T3x Tac A1 vs Ruger Precision Gen 2.
The rifle will be used for Purley target shooting.

Thanks for detailed answer.I was in the same situation a few months ago - I was reading reviews, asking people, looking at stats and info.
The RPR gen 2 came out about 7 years ago, the 3 was a little more refined but even the gen 3 doesn’t hold a candle to the Tac A1, I am very impressed with my Tac A, it shoots better than me and I have shot it out to 1800yards.
I know of a competition where a bog stock one was used and came in very near the top - against some serious custom rifles. And when asked the owner commented that the rifle had fired around 3000 rounds.
I am by no means a tikka fan but the logic is hard to ignore when looking for a target rifle.
My only complaints are you need to pamper it from rust prevention point of view, as they will rust within a few hours of getting wet! (Especially around the magazine) and I changed the pistol grip as the standard one is very narrow.
Otherwise a cracking long range rifle that punches way above its weight.
Hope this helps and feel free to send any other questions by PM if need be.![]()
The only rust I suffered on a Tac A1 was the magazine itself and that was from sweating profusely over it while stuck in a car in 30⁰C heat. The actual rifle has never had a spot of rust on it and it's been used extensively in the rain but I've also applied plenty of oil between the chassis and rifle as a precaution.I was in the same situation a few months ago - I was reading reviews, asking people, looking at stats and info.

Mine was around the mag well and under the barrel shroud…I now coat liberally with legia. The only rust I suffered on a Tac A1 was the magazine itself and that was from sweating profusely over it while stuck in a car in 30⁰C heat. @caberslash couldn’t get it to tag you in the post!
Do you mean the bottom of the receiver where the magazine contacts (and rubs the blueing off)? Or is there some other area that's prone to rust?My only complaints are you need to pamper it from rust prevention point of view, as they will rust within a few hours of getting wet! The mag release and bolt release are not.I thought the mag well on these was aluminium
Has he disappeared?@caberslash couldn’t get it to tag you in the post!
Has he disappeared?
He decided to come off the SD voluntarily…..I’ll make sure to rib him about it when I see him next…Yep he is no longer a name. Just a number!
I wonder what happened
He may still see questions you ask….just don’t ask him about Swarovski or any rifle other than a remington…Thats a pity. I valued his opinions on a range of topics. Certainly much more than some total prats remaining.
