Well this idea constantly gravitating around my brain for couple of ears now. Finally decided to get one but then :banghead: what I want is not available in UK at least without waiting ages for special order. Was clear decision it has to be tikka or bergara but now looking for any options. It has to be 22" barrel and muzzle diameter 17mm. Any recommendations

I first met Dr Strangelove when I bought his RBCS charge master off him.
I’ll tell you something. He’s a gentleman, straightforward and very helpful.
I’d be very happy to buy off him again.

I have a Howa Mountain rifle in 7mm-08 that I can’t say enough good things about for the money.
I will check this model. I absolutely love howas for their accuracy and reliability but don't really like their concept for barrel contours either pencil or telegraph post😀

Don't worry about barrel length , 18--20" will do every you need ( don't tell the mrs) I have a Sako in 7mm-08 ,and I'm going to recommend you go for a Tikka T3X , you won't regret it.

7mm-08 is a top calibre and has dropped everything I've pointed it at with ease .

Most of everything I'd like to be tikka and there's two on gun trader but not really fancy 20" barrel

I’ve 2 rifles in 7mm08. One with 24 inch barrel snd the other 20 inches.
The 20 inch rifle is the one I reach for every time. It spits out a 150 grain eldx at 2800 fps or a nosler 120 grain BT at 2980 fps with sub moa accuracy.
If I was buying in 7mm08 again, I wouldn’t get longer than 22inches max.

It could be because I never owned a rifle with 20" barrel and then velocity loss. Don't know how all others come up with about 30fps loss per inch of a barrel length for given chambering but my experience is going from 24" to 22" 150fps for swede and 150-200 FPS for 22-250. What I've read is 7mm-08 isn't affected by barrel length,so I could be wrong thinking that 20" barrel will neutered it

Definitely not longer than 22" for me too but your numbers really pushing me towards Tikka. Well I know each rifle is different. What velocity you are getting with 24" barrel if you don't mind?

It definitely won’t. For stalking, no benefit in 24 inches in 7mm08

3090 with n150 and 120 nosler bt when I pushed it.
That’s unnecessary velocity.
The 120 even at a mild 2800 is more than enough to floor anyuk quarry.

No first hand experience of 7 x 57 but apparently a brilliant calibre with a pedigree second to none.
Legend also has it the 7x64 is amazing.
But let’s face it. Put the bullet in the right place and everything works!
