Stalking in a kilt...

Here's my 2p worth. I'd say that there were MORE 6.5mm x 54 MS rifles "on the hill" than ever were 7x57 and more .303 Lee Speed with the old 215 grain bullet than the totals of both 6.5mm MS and 7x57 rifles combined. So I dispute the claim that the 7x57 was as widely used as those watching the video might be led to believe. But it is interesting to see the wheel come full circle and the .264" calibre in a medium length cartridge (rather than as in the .264" Winchester) be seen again "on the hill".

Have encountered a few folks in august shooting grouse in kilts both driven and walked-up and from memory mostly American but not exclusively and suspect some form midge cream applied 🤷🏽‍♂️

Gosh! There’s a sight!
Is that oddly-shaped blue thing in your hand a sort of shoe horn to assist one in extracting any manly bits tangled up in the kilt adorning process then?
Just asking …….,

I remember a dear departed shooting friend telling me tales of having several holidays stalking on an estate in Scotland (c. late 1960 to late 1970’s I suppose) where the owner/stalker wore a kilt when he took my friend out on the hill. The estate owner, a former military man used a SMLE as his personal rifle. The kilt was worn no matter what the weather.

Access to the house my friend stayed at was by boat across a loch. The accommodation was obviously frequented by sportsmen as it was common to find the odd round of ammunition down the side of a sofa cushion.

I wish I could recall the name of the estate but sadly there’s no one left to ask, long shot though it is with such sketchy information but if it rings any bells please enlighten.

I believe the blue appendage can have various attachments, including a maniken style hand fixed at a jaunty angle and available in other colours.☝🏿

I once ran my GSP on a small walked-up grouse day near Thurso for the landowner and a few friends.

One of the party was Lord Thurso, who was bedecked in an ancient kilt and what looked like an equally as old woolly jumper. He was an MP at the time from memory, a real gent too.

I shot a stag whilst stalking in a kilt to celebrate my stag do in October! The kilt wasn’t something I had planned, rather it was something forced upon me by my mates! 😂 it wasn’t actually as unpleasant as I expected!

It must have been a wee bit warmer than our day with you last Saturday Connor! You'd have had blue knees!
Thanks for organising the day, we all enjoyed it.

I would worry more about the other (unseen) blue appendage that apparently is a regular occupational hazard when dressed in a kilt - err - so my friend tells me….

Circulation very important so think it’s a bit like brasso, you have to rub it with supplied appendage and fitting of choice I would imagine🤔🕵️‍♀️
