Custom knives… talk me out of / into one..

In the spirit of ‘shiny things make it all better’ I really want a custom knife, but £300 + is a lot of something that is prone to getting lost or ruined by someone with ham fisted lack of patience (me… )

BUT the stalking show is coming up with some amazing craftsman there…

I know that in the same way shotguns all go bang and miss in the same place, all knives cut … and that my sika sack is already weighed down by waaay too much stuff …

But they are pretty and shiny…. and make me invisible and otherwise undetectable to Fallow right?

Help!

I can never fathom the notion of losing knives, how do you do this? I hear it time and time again “wouldn’t spend big on a knife in case I lose it”, knife gets used, put back in sheath, simple.
That is one method I accept, other methods it’s raining, dark you are rushing around the phone goes etc, on returning home your pocket folder is no longer in your pocket. I think the hunting knife industry thrives on “lost” knives/repurchase

I have had custom knives before, beautiful to have and to look at but in my case I always thought they were too nice to use and ended up taking the mora instead
That’s more what I’m thinking … I have a ‘good’ shotgun that’s too nice to use unless not moisture in sight

I once lost a buck alpha when tidying up shoot, just wasn’t on belt when I got back to the car, and that had a pop stud…

Have you never thought of buying a blank blade and putting a set of scales on it to shape your hand, Ive done it with a few Enzo's, Now called Brisa I believe and a Stuart Mitchell now.

Buy what you like and look after it ( them) 😊 make sure you use them for the purpose and as per fish boy keep em safe, clean and sharp, and a post gralloch ground and sheath check saves a long walk back to the gralloch ( normally when it’s dark 🥹)

A word of caution you may have to buy more than one to make sure you’ve got the right blade forget the cost enjoy using it 👍

I gralloched a doe in the snow one winter with a knife that had a partially stainless handle, put it down for a second and couldn't find it again in the blood stained snow. Early next buck season a flash in the sunlight caught my eye and I recovered it.
