I’m torn as to whether to buy the new alpex or a c50, any users of the new alpex provide any reviews yet? I have the old alpex already and love it, but I really prefer the pulsar build quality. However the ballistic software on board the new alpex does look fantastic, potentially standing in for a dialling scope out to 400m?

Own both new Alpex every day of the week. It’s cheaper, better image day, better image night, LRF and has a smaller objective bell so it can be mounted lower. Build quality wise I don’t see any real negatives to be honest.
There's nothing to be torn about, the new Alpex 4k is a much better buy
The Alpex with it's LRF and ballistic calculator can replace a dialling scope, but at 400m it had better be a pretty big target because all the videos I've seen of the Alpex 4k at maximum magnification (x28) are pretty horribly pixellated

Just got my Alpex 4k on Saturday and have not really had much time behind it, but it is good.
Last night I mounted a dark engine blade to it and I can tell you it's a really good combo.
I was watching 4 roe deer at 500yds with it no problem at all. Even when I turned the IR off I could still see them.
The smart IR function on the scope works an absolute treat. Had the blade on full power and I was able to go from far out to really close with all kinds of things in the way that would usually cause white out and the scope just dealt with it and compensated accordingly.
So far really impressed apart from the unit running off its internal battery first rather than running off the replaceable 18650 first.
I would like to think Hik could rectify this issue with a firmware update!!

Why should it not run off its internal battery first?
The 18650 is a back up battery in case the much larger internal battery goes flat

Perhaps so that when changing over a flat 18650 the device can maintain power and function on the charged internal battery?

For me they have this the wrong way round, the scope running off 18650’s and using the inbuilt as back up would be a far better option the same as the C50 did with its own batteries.
It means you don’t have to charge the scope sitting on your gun every time you get home or before you go out shooting and it’s a pain having to leave it out.
Take it out of the cabinet, slip a battery in and off you go.
I very rarely charged the internal on my C50 as it used the drop ins first and would last weeks on end.
Maybe, but I was under the impression that initially, the scope draws power from the internal battery until is discharged to a level where the 18650 kicks in
If the 18650 discharges, then replacing it with another fully charged 18650 would allow continued use of the scope
At the end of the session, the internal battery can be charged from a mains charger or from a power bank that can go in the gun safe along with the rifle so that the internal battery is fully charged the next time the scope is used
Remember that the original Alpex has a CR123 as a back up battery and that doesn't seem to cause the problems that one or two people claim to be having with the 4k model
Yes, the 4k with the LRF will draw more power when the LRF is used, but if it's the same as other LRFs I've tested (PARD and Arken) the additional power drawn is minimal

You were comparing a scope (the Alpex 4k) with a 4k sensor to scopes that have full HD sensors (less than 2k)
In a daylight environment, the 4k is always going to give a more detailed image

I'm not at all technical but that makes sense and, although it was poor light, yes it was daytime - on purpose as I'm looking at one for deer (not under licence or foxes!)
Pulsar and Infiray must have it wrong!! According to some?? Hikmicro must be flavour of the month at the minute.
I read a post somewhere off someone who had depleted there internal batteries on the 4K and then went on to the replaceable 18650 and it didn't have enough juice in the tank for the LRF to function.

Well, scope ordered, let’s see what we make of it
Probably a stupid question but....without an IR, will the Alpex 4K give clear images throughout the legal deer stalking period - 1 hour before sunrise to 1 hour after sunset? And would that be in 'day' mode or would you have to switch to 'night' mode? I don't do any night shooting but considering buying one to squeeze all available 'legal' time out of a stalking trip.

It’s not a stupid question and if you are looking to gain the most out of legal light then it’s an important one.
I would wait to see how the new Alpex stacks up in a direct test with the old one and the C50 which will do what you are asking with ease.
