New law to retake driving test at 65

Its a national upper speed limit not a national speed target. Are your assumed rights getting in the way of my rights? I suggest looking wider than your own perception of perhaps as I got up too late for work "get a move on". Just saying as it is a discussion.
I spent a long time driving under the USAs national 55mph limit which puts you to sleep imo, at 65mph then not imo.
I knew someone old would come out with that statement. Should the lorry and delivery drivers have got up earlier too? How much earlier? When the gas repair man has to cancel his last job which was you, because he's been stuck in traffic jams, are you going to say that he should have started his first job before the house owner got out of bed?
If you can't keep up with the flow of traffic it's probably time that you weren't part of the traffic.

If you hold a licence from outside the European Community, or an International Driving Permit, you can drive here for up to 12 months. If you hold a licence from a designated country you can apply to exchange this for a GB licence. You need to do this within five years of moving here.

This is a reciprocal arrangement. Plenty of UK nationals driving 'elsewhere' on their UK licence.
I get what you say and all would be good if the quality of the test was equal. There is no comparison in the uk Driving test standard to that of India Pakistan or some of the African country,s

I might be old but you appear not to have the smarts to really understand what I wrote. The roads are for all, not just those who feel entitled. As you replied in a personal manner I thought the like should be my reply.

Personal yes. You did your DSC1 at Sparsholt, yes? Sure the roads are for everyone. Isn't that what this thread is about?

Sparsholt? Not following that one, maybe we met but I cannot remember much as I had lost my passport at Munich airport and so was more concerned with getting a new one to be able to return to the promised land, I had the NSCC cert anyway which had elapsed. But as for the rest, I don't follow the narrative, must be too old.

At 64 I still can out drive out think and out manoeuvre all the stupid young drivers that have tried to crash into me while thinking they have F1 skills ! and I can still catch flies out of the air ! oh and out shoot more than I can remember:popcorn: 65 thats still middle aged.
:old::rofl: bloody cheeky bastards

You're seriously blaming the government for delaying your pension by a year? Why dodn't you blame the NHS for keeping be alive too long? People are living longer and therefore claiming their state pension for longer. That has to be paid for somehow. What about us 'youngsters' who will be working into our 70's to pay for your pension? I bet you don't care about them.
Lots of roads aren't becoming slower either.
You are only “Paying for our pension” because the successive governments don’t ring fence money for their intended use … example: “Road Tax”.

There’s only so much money. Someone will lose out somewhere. If you’re going to take for longer you’re going to have to pay in for longer. That’s obvious, surely? I know everyone wants something for nothing but that’s not sustainable.

It’s known and recognised recent generations who have retired didn’t put enough into their pensions pots and this shortfall is being picked up by current working people. NI hikes have also been shoring up the frightening costs of social care and the demand on our NHS.

I don't consider that I'm looking for "something for nothing" having worked and paid my National insurance and income tax for 50years, I draw my basic State Pension every month with a very clear conscience!

I don't know why anyone here is getting upset about it.
Given the average age of sd members, and the glacial movement of government departments. If the government decided to start the process of introducing oap driving tests today , most of us would be dead by the time it actually happened 🙂.

For the record . I'd be perfectly happy to take a driving test every few years . If you show that you can drive to a safe standard , you'll pass , but if you don't, you won't.

That’s exactly what you’re hoping for. You want to take out more than you put in and the country can’t afford to keep doing that.
