I didn’t dare put this in the Deer Dogs section

A mongrel (Cockerpoo) is just as likely to work as any other dog, it's up to you to train it. Ok it may not suit totally but I have had Labs and Springers from impeccable working lines that have not performed and been given away as pets. I do know somebody that has a mongrel daarg of that breed and it hunts well.

I know a few cockapoos and they seem to be intelligent and very biddable dogs. However what you really need is double pedigree hound like ours. She has both pedigree labrador and pedigree bavarian in her immediate ancestry so she has the best of both. She does not consider herself to be a cross or a mongrel - In much the same way as the Royal family is a combination of the major Royal Houses of Europe. She has her airs and graces and won’t lower herself to picking up pigeons or even phaesants - a job for spaniels.

She much prefers finding deer and ducks as her breeding suggests. And will find phaesants that have hidden away where spaniels cannot find.

Now 9 years old and has never had any health issues and she is a lovable house dog as well. IMG_7799.webpIMG_7412.webp

Whatever you do......pleeeeaasaasssse don't do what some of our local owners do with cockerpoo's and dress the blo*dy things up as if they're going for a walk down the Champs Elysee - almost as heinous a crime as having a man bun!
Spaniels, that's what you need - calm, cool, friendly, biddable, obedient, barking mad.........or a border terrier!

Excellent choice. We walk a friends version. She doesn't stray to far is obedient and has a good nose. Certainly clued into deer and given the opportunity will chase squirrels. Only issue is you have to hose down after a muddy walk..
D

It wouldn't be my first choice or 10th choice personally.

there very high maintenance brushing daily frequent trips to the groomer etc the combination of coats make them a nightmare to deal with quite a bit different than a cocker that just needs a ear trim and a wee tidy every now and again at home.
It seems like all the doodle's are prone to hip issues, a bit like GSD an early retirement of arthritis and joint pain etc, isn't something that would be enjoyble.

Cocker X something else would be my idea if I wanted to go down the mixed breed rabbit hole? preferably something with same coat type?

As I’ve said , lovely wee dog
I don’t know enough about any health issue to comment but what I can say is that it’s folk with dogs like this that are the reason vet bills in urban areas are so ridiculous 😂

Anyhoo hopefully yours has a happy healthy life.
Put pictures up once it starts picking up at the partridges 👍

That’s you struck off the babysitting list.

Make sure it’s a warm bath and then blow dried with your own hairdryer. A cold hosepipe won’t be acceptable.

But you only have yourselves to blame for raising a daughter that thinks its acceptable to put a bow in dogs hair.

We have a regular guest gun whose good lady, when she accompanies him, brings her cockerpoo to "help" his black Labrador. Named Teddy, which he really does resemble in looks,he sits quietly during the drive, actually picks up birds and is generally very well behaved. Struggles with large birds but partridge no problems.
Refuses to use steps into gun bus,has to be lifted in but lovely little fella all round.
If you get it young enough, it'll do what you teach it to do. Handsome is as handsome does with dogs 👍

Thank you Sir.
One doesn’t often see a gun look like a teddy but each to their own; several of my shoot’s guns also have to be lifted into the gun bus, sometimes several times, usually right after lunch……

Indeed so but something she has done since before she could even tie a bow!

I think our one is more springer than cocker, she’s loyal, biddable and unlikely to leave our side and bugger off.
Sadly she’s 10 now so won’t be with us loads longer. We got her 3 months before our first kid was born and didn’t have time to train her for anything other than a family dog, which was easy with her. Starting again I’m sure she’d be a reasonable gundog.
Don’t know where we will ever find another like her, she more mongrel than most ….poos.
