Where do you see commercial game shooting in UK in 20 years time?

Well like others have considered the situation for many moons from various perspectives and locations with more than at times a vested interest and sat round tables listening to some who allowed their personal interests ( like me ) cloud their decision making and in some cases tell great untruths to further their ends and bring about change all of which matters not.
Pretty obvious what is happening and why and only a question of time before game shooting commercial or otherwise becomes unrecognisable and finally fades away due to a total lack of interest along with other aspects of hunting and shooting and is inevitable eventually in the uk.🤷🏽‍♂️
One of the few things the prophet cp got right was in saying “ I don’t know when it will end but it will” !

Remember it’s not about what you want to happen…….
it’s what do you think is going to happen?
I think an end to s1 and s2 (as far as certification is concerned but the classes will still remain in the Firearms Act) and a "new" all in one certificate charged at the same fee as a Co-Terminous is presently costed. An with it a requirement thats s2 will require a good reason. Which will be regular attendance at a clay ground or demonstrable use on vermin or game. The argument used will be to stop another Plymouth and that as many shooters hold both FAC and SGC that for them it is not an increased cost. Which of course for the person that has only shotguns or only s1 firearms it will be.

There seems a lot on here that think big bags are a recent phenomenon, the recent thing is the availability of these days to whoever has enough money.
The calls of go back 20 - 30 years would only mean increased costs and more rearing in house as opposed to the imported eggs/chicks.
But I don’t believe it will be going in 20 years as it is today for sure there won’t be enough countryside left due to more housing for the ever expanding population and solar farms to provide the energy.

Im a bit more hopeful - we have lots of fresh blood joining our shoot and not just young men but ladies and actually families
Its in our hand as much as anyone else's how it all pans out - i notice now on many of the media platforms used by some of the celebratory antis calls to ban course fishing are stirring

Are these families shooting on commercial shoots with 200+ birds being shot?

No in fairness we are not a commercial syndicate - we shoot circa 100/120 birds

We had some corn 6t wheat come yesterday - as i feed throughout the whole year - and we had 18 people come to help from our shoot

Unfortunately renewable energy is likely to be a great factor in shootings demise along with infrastructure and housing. HS2 has already decimated huge areas of general countryside both woodland and food producing land, for what. Solar farms are the main infradig things now. There is one that will be coming soon near me over 1000 acres of arable land will be gone.
Another I know of is 200 acres of grassland but apparently sheep can still be grazed on it, although it will affect the shooting as it encompasses a few game covers. With more solar and windmills springing up everywhere and income to land owners from it, shooting will be done for along with fishing as our rivers become open sewers. Thank God I have seen the best of all Fieldsports in my long life.

This. I can drive from my village to the Co-operative supermarket not two miles away and on route look out my car window and see where in 1861, Bradgate Park, Leicestershire, over three thousand rabbits were shot in a day and at a later time what was supposedly the second highest bag of partridge. And some thirty years earlier over the course of a year rather a lot of cats!

Going back to the golden era of game shooting pairs and trios of game guns built for a very good reason which to me was all good.😀
Pheasant coverts planted and game preserves created and wild partridges flourished and if really lucky off to Africa for a good blotter up and Scotland for a proper stag, and a shot at a grouse, what’s not to like ? Edit, nearly forgot and Ireland for driven snipe.

Big commercial shoots with wealthy influenctial participants will continue to prosper, smaller working people's shoots will fold under pressure from the antis and be uneconomic in the face of ever more bureaucracy. Get used to beater's days opportunities unless you are in the privileged 1%!

Possible could come semi full circle and maybe not a bad thing but I got my jollies been a shoot servant 😀 edit, and my chicks for free🤪

Wow a lot of thoughts here but most of them not positive for the future of driven game shooting. Personally I enjoy a couple of days driven game shooting and also some walked up rough shooting. There is a lot about shooting that does not make commercial sense.

The longer term future of shooting will depend on the collective collaboration of all shooters, land owners and other country sports people. It is a constant fight that needs to looked at every day to fight all aspects of unnecessary restrictions. Unfortunately each sector of UK shooting sports often seems to throw other groups under the bus far too quickly.

It is going to take a well funded united group of smart active people to lead that fight, are you prepared to fund, participate and come together for the future of your sport?

Heaven knows where you will find them and for many is/ was what life was about but personally don’t think I will bother, but good luck to all.🙂
