Ticks!!!

Dug my first 2024 tick nymph out of my forearm this mornings after Saturday's stalking - only found it because of the itching🤬

I find these small ones the most prevalent and difficult to spot! God knows how many are on the Teckel given he's quite shaggy at present:coat:

Horrible things! I have an aversion to them - as I’m sure most others do too. I’ve found spraying permithin (?) on your stalking gear helps a lot. I’ll be retreating my stuff this weekend.

Use bravecto for mine. Found it better than spot on formulas
Oh dear - we had very bad problems with Bravecto with one of our Hungarian Vizslas - full story here:

Currently not using anything but looking very carefully - easy on the 2 Vizslas but not so on the Teckel, but I really do fear poisoning him

Avon Skin so Soft works well, that combined with the wash in repellent for clothes seems to keep them at bay..Good for keeping midges off too, infact apart from an actual midge net, I've found it to be the best but I guess it changes person to person. I had Lymes Disease last year, luckily I caught it really early and a dose of antibiotics sorted it out..😳

Keep a spray can of 'doom' or other locally available insecticide in the van. At the end of the day you can spray yourself down and then have a thorough soapy shower. This works especially well for the tiny pepper ticks. If you can find the type for crawling insects even better because it'll stay on your trousers during your stalk.

Any one using Frontline on their dogs? We paid out for this periods dose and our dog can not stop itching since we put it him? A neighbours dog is the same?

BC.
Front line burnt my spaniels skin. He had it for years and then the last time many years ago now he had a reaction. Never used it since. His skin was so sore. No wonder he was trying to itch it. Luckily washed it off in time.

Been stalking for about 10 years now.
Only ever had 1 tick before.

This weekend I've had 2.
One I found on my arm, and removed while I was sat in a low box

The other I found before getting in the shower this morning. Without being too specific, it was on a part of the anatomy that rhymes with tick......

I was not impressed 🤣
There's been a few such attachments discussed on here over the years.
Bloody awful things wherever they decide to latch on.

I've ended up buying Rovince trousers, socks and a soft shell top (all impregnated with permethrin) just because of my desire to avoid a dose of Lymes disease or tick-borne encephalitis. The clothes double up well for dog walking so getting my money's worth out of it.

I give my dog Bravecto, and have done ever since finding a tick on her only two weeks after an application of Frontline spot-on.
