Partners to be quizzed in new gun licence screening

Hi

I understood from the BBC report that it was bing 'trialed' by several other Polis Services - cant remember this being raised in Forum?

A refusal of an application for not completing a non-statutory/legal form seems to make for an interesting appeal......

What do our representative Organisations have to say now that tis out the bag? Did they know before the BBC report and if any, what action taken or entered into ddiscussion/communications before trials?

Partners to be quizzed in new gun licence screening

...I'm kind of surprised they don't do this already. After all they speak to our doctors so why not our wives/husbands?
Nothing new there.
They've been speaking to partners for years, albeit not in the form of a "questionnaire".
The report is just soundbites to give the impression that something is being done, and to keep the public happy.

it would be interesting to know how they score it. I have an interest in guns, read the news regarding criminality and kill animals. That's three big red crosses - do I need to drop my guns off with my RFD now?

Trialled by Gwent police force initially. Why am I not surprised?
This will be another of those 'death by a thousand cuts'.

You wait, they'll flick that round to a conflict of interest hahaha
We were once told that if a neighbour reported a domestic dispute at the premises then armed response would automatically be sent as we both have access to firearms🙄. Luckily 20 yrs of marriage and we have hardly had a crossed word.

TBH I have only had minor issues with Gwent Police firearms licensing- and my
Licenses have been renewed prior to expiry date- biggest issue has been the FEO not knowing the legislation around open /closed tickets- but after an email to HQ I did receive a phone call back and he did admit he had made a mistake.

Police having a closer look at your partner to see if firearms are safe in the house with them. There is always an intelligence angle not just the face value explanation.

I'm not sure why the police are so anti private gun ownership, generally we are the most law abiding people anyway.
I just told my wife about it, she said she feels safer with me than the police these days.
So I guess I'll be fine unless I get behind with the decorating, the gardening.........

Less than 30 deaths a year due to firearms, most of those from illegally held guns. Licencing needs to be proportional to the risk.

The feo asked my partner if she was happy for me to have firearms at my first interview. Absolutely a reasonable question, that's all that needed not a formal interview.

I'm not sure they are! I just don't buy the oft-touted anti-gun conspiracy theory. Firearms licensing is a very low priority on the agenda of every police force, and one they'd probably prefer not to worry about at all, but I really don't think that translates into opposition to firearms ownership.
