Wanted: Stalking Lease/Permission

Hi all,

I know how fruitless these posts can be, but it’s been such a long time since I’ve needed to consider finding land that I’m not sure where else to start.

I’m just about to lose the stalking permission that I’ve had for the past 8yrs, due to the estate making some changes regarding the sporting rights, and I’m feeling very glum about the situation. As you can imagine, I’m desperately keen to try and obtain some ground again, and in that desperation have come here to put up a post.

If anyone is aware of any land that might be suitable, (Oxon/Berks/Wilts/Hamps all workable), please consider giving me a message. DSC2 holder and can provide references and as many examples of experience as required. Equally happy to work within whatever arrangement the estate/landowner might desire in terms of payments/deals.

Not holding my breath, but this is where I find myself…

I can sympathise with you on this 5pointer. Just this week I have lost land through being sold. I have stalked on it for the best part of 20 years and like you I am absolutely gutted about it. My own fault for not being greedy and wanting more while i already had land.
I am frantically searching for suitable land around here as well, if I get anything I will be in contact with you. Best of luck with your search.

I really am sorry to hear that marineboy. Even though we know these places aren’t ‘ours’, it’s impossible not to invest an awful lot of yourself in them. Your comment about not taking on more land than you could manage effectively resonates with me too. I did the same thing, and turned down a pretty significant permission a couple of years ago so I could continue to do justice to my ‘main’ one. In hindsight perhaps I should’ve made a different decision…

Anyway, thanks for your reply and good luck in your efforts to find somewhere.

Have a look at BDS and BASC as I understand they have registers to match land owners looking for deer management, and DSC 2 qualified stalkers. You might get something.........
