BASC 2024 AGM outcome

BASC’s AGM took place at Marford Mill today, Saturday 18 May. The meeting included the election of two Council members, both of which were for national seats.

Gareth Wilson is a former chief constable of Suffolk Constabulary and is interested in a broad range of pursuits covered by BASC.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be elected to Council and I’m really hoping that the experience I’ve got – everything from working my dogs through to deer stalking and rough shooting – brings benefits to the members. I hope my professional career and skills will also be of significant benefit to BASC.”

Aidan Dryden, from Worcestershire, was elected to the other national seat. His shooting interests centre around wildfowling and rough shooting.

He said: “It’s an honour to be elected to represent your sport by members of the sport and I’ll do my best to represent all members.”

It’s good to see Gareth being elected on to the BASC council.
Hopefully his considerable experience shall be used to drive some improvements within BASC.
The recent lack of transparency and communication by the BASC Deer department with regards the Arran deerstalking scheme has been extremely disappointing.

Sorry to hear that, feel free to email me at conor.ogorman@basc.org.uk with details and I will look into it.

The BASC Deer department staff and CEO are already aware of the issues.
As yet, there are still no details on the BASC website, regarding the current status of the Arran deerstalking scheme.
(Despite assurances that there would be).
It’s a real shame that the only deerstalking scheme run by BASC in Scotland (which has been in existence since before 2000) is currently suspended, with no details of its current status or possible reinstatement milestones / dates being available to BASC members via the website.
The ongoing lack of transparency and communication to BASC members on this matter is really disappointing.

I have checked with the Deer team and the BASC stalking lease on Arran has expired. BASC is committed to re-tendering for this lease when it becomes available. BASC is constantly seeking to extend stalking opportunities for members, and hopes to announce new options in Scotland. In the meantime BASC’s stalking schemes at Hampshire, Bowland and Baronscourt are still available for those who wish to experience excellent and reasonable deer stalking.

BASC were offered an extension to the lease for the Arran deerstalking scheme for a further 2 year period by Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) but chose not to accept and agreed to allow the current lease to expire.

With no active deerstalking scheme currently in place in Scotland, I and other members look forward to hearing what opportunities BASC have to offer.

Thanks, as mentioned before BASC is committed to re-tendering for this lease when it becomes available. A note to that effect has been added to our BASC stalking schemes webpage. Let's wait and see what transpires.

Many thanks for getting those details added to the BASC website.
It’s good to have such communications, so that members can be kept up to date with what’s going on.
