25-06 shoots 6,53mm bulletsOne man’s opinion… 6.5’s don’t kill that well. 25-06 and 270’s kill very well , is that because of the lower sectional density? Who knows.
My next build would be a 1in7 twist 6mm creedmoor

Yes but a 25-06 is not a 6.525-06 shoots 6,53mm bullets
A tiny difference a .303Savage shoots .311 bullets through a .30 cal boreYes but a 25-06 is not a 6.5
Can’t have done. One from today with the old 6.5x55
.303 Savage uses standard .308 bullets. The .303 British uses .311. I have a .303 Savage and I know.A tiny difference a .303Savage shoots .311 bullets through a .30 cal bore
Thanks for the unrelated info , we are talking about 6.5mm ( .264 ) cartridgesA tiny difference a .303Savage shoots .311 bullets through a .30 cal
Which 6.5 are you comparing it to? I suspect that it will be one with less powder volume than a 30-06 variant. One man’s opinion… 6.5’s don’t kill that well. 25-06 and 270’s kill very well , is that because of the lower sectional density? Who knows.

I do have to say that I have gone back to lead ammo in it. Tried several copper options and they all resulted in runners. The lead ammo just drops them on the spot. Can’t have done.
Everyone knows 6.5 bullets just bounce off roe deer.
I think it really died of embarrassment after being shot at by such an inadequate cartridge.
Be careful there! @Heym SR20 will cross you off the Christmas list…I do have to say that I have gone back to lead ammo in it. Tried several copper options and they all resulted in runners. The lead ammo just drops them on the spot.
Well then he won’t get his scope back that’s sitting on the rifle used in the pictureBe careful there! @Heym SR20 will cross you off the Christmas list…
I believe you’re referring to the ‘nudginess’ of a cartridge. Which is similar to, but not the same as how ‘bangish’ it is.P
I assume “eartingle” is in reference to whether it provides a big or a little “owie” on your shoulder or forehead when you fire it.
Stick a 140 gr .264 into a necked down 30-06 case, load it to its capabilities and it will flatten deer just as well as a 120 gr from a 25-06 if not better. Thanks for the unrelated info , we are talking about 6.5mm ( .264 ) cartridges
Whats why we use 222rem and shotguns for roe. Can’t have done.

Like 6,5*64 Brenneke or the most common wildcat in Sweden 6,5-06. For now the .257 bore cartridges are limited by slow twistrate some manufactorer are probably going to release a cartridge for a faster twistrate so the high BC bullets can be developed. .270/6,8mm might be the new thing now then US army has adopted a .270-08 style cartridge.Stick a 140 gr .264 into a necked down 30-06 case, load it to its capabilities and it will flatten deer just as well as a 120 gr from a 25-06 if not better.
What you are seeing is the result of of burning 15-25% more powder behind a similar weight bullet, not the <15 thou difference in bullet diameter.
Did you try Sako Powerhead II 120gr (copper) in your 6.5x55?I do have to say that I have gone back to lead ammo in it. Tried several copper options and they all resulted in runners. The lead ammo just drops them on the spot.
I did. Worked ‘ok’, shots under 40yds gave way to some runners of quite exceptional distances, esp 25-30yds shots.Did you try Sako Powerhead II 120gr (copper) in your 6.5x55?
I find it extremely effective.
Under 40 yds and you’re getting runners? Where are you shooting them?I did. Worked ‘ok’, shots under 40yds gave way to some runners of quite exceptional distances, esp 25-30yds shots.
Saw a few reds travel 75-125yds when shot at around 200-250 yds.
The oryx 156g just drops them all - having a rethink about transitioning now until I must - despite having shot copper for around 2-3 years now.
Still running the blade in the .308, but might go back to a 150g partition
Usual place - H/L/shoulder, not rear lung obviously, touch forwardUnder 40 yds and you’re getting runners? Where are you shooting them?
