First cubs this year

I saw one run across the road last night. It was the size of a cat. I’m in East Berkshire.

We had 4 in the straw bales in the yard on Sunday.

We knew a vixen was around as she kept appearing in the yard after dark, plus I had a dog in the yard 8 weeks ago.
Bit awkward trying to get a safe shot off with so many cattle in pens, free range calf's and tractors and machinery all over the place.

We had a litter last year in the big straw bales that we're stored in the field 50 yards from the yard.
Nice and warm for them plus a few rats and rabbits about.

Just got in with another litter taken care of, had these 5 + one more that I’ll go back tomorrow & look for, to much undergrowth for looking around in the dark + a good chance I’d end up in the dyke (no not that kind) 😂. Nice to get these before they get to big & go their separate ways causing mayhem on the marsh. Now a case of catching up with the adults.

Nice bag mate, litters seem to be of a good size this year, between 5-7 must be plenty of food around 😂, that’ll save a a few poults later on 👍

Moved the bait pipe 3 days ago & got these 4 cubs tonight, I’ll have to try for the vixen another night as there was so much moisture in the air it made things hard going towards the end. Like someone mentioned on another thread, knowing your ground & where the earths are pays off when you keep your eye on things.

Just got home & feel confident that these are the dog & vixen to the above cubs, only just over 200yds from where the cubs were. Vixen wasn’t in that good a condition & the dog had an old wound on its throat.
