This is timely evidence so perhaps use some of that information as most relevant to your shooting interests, particularly deer stalking, when contacting candidate MPs in your constituency ahead of the 4th July general election.

Specific refs to deer stalking in main report were deer management/stalking totalling 120,000 participants (22% of all participants), and deer making up 4% per cent of all live quarry taken, with roe making up the largest bag.

Thing is they may not reply. Mine never have when ever I have asked before. They are hard wired never to answer questions they don’t like.

My PCC candidate did reply when I contacted him . But if you engage with the candidates at least they will know your views as a voter ?It takes very little effort using the BASC portal to contact you prospective MPs'.

Very interesting but sadly not relevant.

The people who want to get rid of shooting don't care about the logical arguments, they hate the people that shoot or/and the idea of killing animals for fun. No point advancing a logical argument to an emotional challenge. Basic stuff really.

Going forwards this is a valuable report, however, I fear the great masses who think that shooting and killing " for fun " ( ie recreational shooting ) should be banned.

Very useful and timely research. Our opposition will do their best to chip away at everything we have so up to date evidence is critical to fight our case.

Labour has set its sights on hunting with hounds but no doubt licensing the release of game birds and banning snaring will be on it’s agenda. They do things to the countryside not for the countryside, after all.

i find this all pretty pointless, obviously someone had nothing to do and was given a job.

You can put all the pie charts and graphs you like in front of who you like and if they don’t want to see it, they will take no notice of it.

commercial game shooting does create jobs and does turn over a vast sum of money BUT in black and white at the end of the day it’s millions of birds are reared to be shot out of the sky for fun, and that’s HOW they see it and it is fact.

Not 200 yds from my back door there is a rearing field with 125,000 head on it.

It’s not a man and his dog on a marsh after wild duck for the freezer, it’s not half a dozen like minded having a grub round for a few wild pheasants for the pot.

You can polish the terd as much as you like you’re not going to make it shiney, and the politicians will rip it to sheds if they so wish too!

I understand your comments re some sectors, however, in the absence of evidence we do not stand a chance of keeping/getting those onside who take an evidence based approach. Whats the alternative to such studies?

Edit : have contacted the candidates for my constituency, will see what responses i get. Did this for the local elections got several responses including from the incumbent who happens to shot/is BASC which perhaps explains why Essex have a pretty good FL section.
