Anyone shoot a Steyr Mannlicher Luxus? Recommended or not?

Looking for first-hand experience with the older Steyr Mannlicher Luxus. Can anyone recommend? Considering the rifle in 30-06.

Thanks in advance,
Jack

Had one with the barley twist barrel many moons ago. Lovely rifle to shoot, mine had a flat bolt which took a bit of getting used to. Sadly shot it out and it was cheaper to scrap it rather than rebarrel.

My mentor,now passed,taught me to shoot a centrefire with a .243 version.
Lovely rifle with a fine set trigger.
l was scared of damaging it!
Not moderated in those days.

Have had a model S in 375 H&H for nearly 30 years.
Beautiful rifle. Can't fault the trigger (single set if needed), the way it feeds, its accuracy and the feel of it in terms of balance, pointability etc.
QUALITY!

I would highly recommend that you give this rifle serious consideration.
The construction quality is excellent, there usually very accurate balance is great which makes for a pointable rifle.

Glendine.

Still one of the best looking rifles ever made. A few of our stalkers used to bring them on the bucks. I always fancied one in .223 for some reason😂

Do you reload? If so, be aware that this rifle has rear locking lugs. This configuration causes slight bolt compression/flexing on firing, and cases will stretch more than with front-locking actions. This is true of all rear-locking rifles--older Schultz & Larsen (M54J up to M68DL), Mauser M77, Golden Eagle, Remington M788. The result is that with full-length resizing after each firing, incipient case-head separation will occur after 4-5 loadings. The best practice is to a;void maximum loads and try to get by with neck-only sizing.

Excellent rifles, very accurate, not heavy & easy to use. I've shot them for nearly 40 years & have several. No issue with reloading or bolt problems. Yours looks like a 1990's 'Classic' I've never owned a 30-06 though, but can't see why it'd be too different to a .270 Win that I had.

Never had a problem with reloading or case life. My loads are quite hot and have never had any problems with this rifle which has seen extensive use in Africa.

I have one and like it very much. It is hard to find anything negative to say about the old luxus. Mine dates from June 95, metal trigger and magazine, in fact no plastic at all, which I like.

Hi

Looks very nice, maybe do with some oil into the stock to really bring the wood/grain out.......

I have a model L from late 80s/early 90s vintage, still pleases the eye when taken out for walkabout.

Is that a single-set trigger? Mine has a double-set.

Plastic magazines and the trigger-guard/magazine well are plastic so may have 'aged'. Not sure if the trigger-guard assembly is available now.........

There must be an opportunity for someone that 3d prints polymers to create these type of items commercially?

My first centre fire rifle was a Luxus Stutzen in 7x57 with a single set trigger. Delightful rifle and surprisingly accurate for a Stutzen. Sold it to my best buddy who died a couple of years ago. It's still waiting for the police to grant a variation for its new intended owner.....still puts them in the middle at 100m. Go for it - I would be VERY surprised if you were disappointed.

Shot a lot with 270 but model L with the double set trigger. in the 80’s.
Quality rifles.
Forestry commission Rangers were issued with them can’t remember of any issues.

I had a .243 not a luxus model, single set trigger, candy twist barrel, oiled stock & lovely accurate rifle but I sold it many years back because I couldn't bring myself to butcher it to get it threaded for a moderator.
Once the new owner had it they could do what they want
If it's been looked after it'll be a good buy.
