Afternoon all. I've just acquired a Purdy & Sons Damascus Knife and checked it out on the internet to find out something about it and all I can see is some shop selling them for between 1500 and 2k

1500 quid for a Knife? Does that seem right? Pics attached

I’m not sure, but I don’t think that’s made by emberleaf, the sheath doesn’t look like their work, and the blade steel doesn’t look like the normal damasteel they use. I could be wrong, but I don’t think it’s one of theirs.

I'd agree with this and was halfway through typing it earlier...

This is not an Emberleaf knife, There have been a number of fakes from known eastern importers, all Emberleaf knives supplied to Purdey, have Damasteel blades, desert ironwood handles and stainless mosaic pins, not the brass you see here, they also have jimping (a small textured area on the spine just forward of where the handle meets the blade) Also if I had made that sheath I would quit making altogether because that is hot garbage.

Purdey's legal team are aware and are dealing with it.

I was just looking at that sheath myself and although, I’m no expert on anything but my thoughts would be to sending it back the sheath is horrible something that I would have thought the client would have picked up on immediately

I actually purchased ( I now know) a knock off purdey blade and sheath was well made but not sharp I even sent it to a recommended knife maker it came back sharp and as new
Report came sheath and blade reasonably well made but the steel used inferior steel used not fit for purpose that 20 years it was for my 50th birthday
Had mine since then hand made to my spec which at least after another I’ve got what I exactly asked for in Danum blades
I’ve spent some dollar but I’m a happy chap now as far as knives go

I’ve got Alan wood, Stuart mitchell but my go to is Danum. Blades he does exactly what you want

That parts a joke , correct ?

Based on the steel and the leather work, I‘d say it’s a fake.
As long as you didn’t pay anywhere near £1500 for it, it’s probably a very usable knife.

That knife reminds me of the type of knife sold by a chap who used the brand James Noble (as well as other aliases)
He had knife patterns copied and made in Pakistan but passed them off as his own work.

I was a member of the knife-making community when this guy was at his most prominent. A more complete and utter charlatan you would be hard to find. I enjoyed challenging him in public on his stand at any fair I found him at and seeing the gathered prospective customers melt away. He was invited, more than once or twice, to join in with us all at our 'Hammer-Ins' (gathering of blade makers et al ) and demonstrate how he could make so much pattern-weld in such a short time, but somehow he always had something else to do that weekend ;) Everything I ever saw that had been bought from him was complete and utter Pak cr£p.

Purdey commissioned these, they are made by “Emberleaf” and it’s the Ventari model.

Damascus blade, desert Iron wood handle.

Very nice 👌🏽

Steal at £300
