thinking of reloading, (part 2) for 6.5 creedmoor

evening chaps.

iv put in for the above rifle, it will be used for roe and a bit or target practice, probably 500y,
ideally id like to make use of my many thousands of SRP, i will probably buy new norma/lapua brass, i also have a good few LB or vhit N140 which looking at the vhit load data can be used for a good few bullet weights, (which im aslo using for my 223) im thinking around the 130gr for deer, and the Hornady 140gr / 132gr ELDM's for the target practice, as powder is a bit scarce at the moment, i can get some vhit N560 which i also see is usable, anyone using these powder in the CM? any advise will be much appreciated as ever, regards powder, bullet weights and makes, NOT my suitability to reload, im now a reloading god round these parts

Thanks,

Lee
Vhit has just released a load of new data for 6.5creed including load data for the 140gr eldm which shows you can use N140 but they will be slow ish but good for target to 600yard.

35 grains of powder in a creedmoor case is terrible case fill.

You are losing out on 150-200 fps to the more suitable powders. That is the sort of gain people step up a cartridge size for.

N140 is the wrong powder!

Running N555 with 120 ELD-M's at about 3000 fps (24" barrel). It is above book but well before pressure signs and QL predicts pretty well with pressures below SAAMI max. Same load drives Sako Blade 120's also at 3000 fps very conveniently to the same POI. Single digit sd's. Both shoot about 7mm at 100m out my 24" Blaser.

Brass is any old **** found in the brass bucket at the range. Same headstamp but thats about it.

picking up 2kg of N560 on monday, as iv said, in current times its not whats best, its whats out there thats suitable, i guessing N560 is better than N140, but if push came to shove, then N140 would have to do till a time when i could get a more suitable powder, but i guess 2kg will last a while, and if its any good i think my local has more in stock 👍

I use n555 with 143gr eldx , Awsome combination for everything pest control/ stalking etc and perfect for some long range gong ringing meditation 🤙🏼

I’m using Hornady Brass, federal primers, Vit N160 (max recommended load) and 143gr ELDX and getting 0.4” groups at 100 yards.

I think its a bad idea to chase having just one powder type / burn speed . Although you could buy just one powder , you will still be using up the same amount ! What happens when you cannot get it ? Are you getting all the best performance on each bullet ? Performance at 100 yards might not do so good when you go 500-600 plus , what a bummer that would be once you sorted all your loads ! Your not even saving money , best savings in powder is buy bigger bottle sizes at the get go or a box full of tubs . when i was a keen target shooter a lot of guys did this as powder rarely decreases in cost - it increases ! having 4-5 years supply might outlast a target shooting rifle barrel but dont worry its likely you can sell spare powder more than you paid at the time of purchase for it eh ?
Lapua Brass is hard to find with the war right on the manufacturers doorstep at present but its the best end of things quality v price ( yes there are more expensive cases available ) but it wins for more folks on target shooting than any other . I have never Rated Hornady brass , i would rather shoot PPU and that's pretty darn cheap
