Oakland Park Game open day

However, given their attention to detail, I'm a bit surprised that it doesn't draw attention to the fact that anyone supplying them will also need to be registered as a food business.
Are you sure about that? I thought you only needed to have your hunter ID to supply to a game dealer.
Nb, too lazy to google it.
Doesn’t actually matter to me as I am already registered.

Yes, I'm sure about it.
Supply to an AGHE requires registration as a food business.
It's been debated on here time and time again, but all you need to do is look at the FSA Wild Game Guide, where it sets out the legal requirements in black and white.

Too be fair 'not clean shot' could easily be say a lung shot that OP put a extra shot into and it damaged the backstrap severely.

Still a very healthy edible carcass but just one of the major money makers on a carcass being severely damaged, Its still worth processing Its shoulders haunches and ground meat are still more than edible and safe for humans.
Not all 'bad' shots are 'bad' for humans given they can process upwards of 200 deer a day keeping consistent processing numbers is needed having 200 carcass *offered* per day for shoulder/body/headshot is unlikely.

Your gonna have to take in some of the worse shot ones to keep those numbers up.

For a smaller dealer they can be more picky for sure.

It's not just about the "edibility" of the carcass. You also have to factor in the extra time involved in salvaging meat from a damaged carcass, and the additional disposal costs for the increased amount of waste generated.
In general, I think Game Dealers should be far more ruthless about turning stuff away.

I do agree with you on that point VSS on one hand Its the game dealers and other hand is the stalkers as well too many use game dealers as disposal services, but same time the dealers also accept them.

Obviously poorly shot can mean a lot of things I dont think anyone would be all that unhappy eating a stag like I mentioned above Its safe edible and a sensible amount of retail value is still there, still losing a few hundred grams in 'premium' meat however what Is serious $$ loss, but then there's folks that will go out and shoot a stag pin it right through the shoulder then toss a few extra rounds in it for precaution and expect the dealers to pay full price for it....

As you've mentioned before diced shoulder is one of your best sellers isn't it? surprising amount of retail just in the shoulder of a deer alone, Ironic isn't it as its the bit stalkers probably dont eat the most (minced for big species, or tossed for smaller three) but the best seller to non-stalkers. 🤔

I wonder if having a new processing facility the size of Oakland Park will do anything to break the stranglehold that Highland Game currently seem to have over the volume sales side of the venison market?
