To be honest SikaSeeker, you are entitled to your own opinion and I really don't care one way or the other.

If you don't agree that a fox (bearing in mind there are/were many different types of trial) is a test for a teckel - that's fine by me.

There are plenty of people in the UK working them to ground. Are they better than any of the terrier breeds - at fox?? I do not know but I know those who switched to teckels and have yet to switch back. As in all breeds - there are good and bad in all.

Do you think that a boar is a test for a teckel?
 
I've only seen my own teckels working, so can only speak for my own.

I have had a couple of good terriers and seen some good terriers working.

I hunt with a very good pack of hounds.

I have one teckel that can be hard enough on a fox. But the others either aren't interested in travelling or will go up and sound away for 15 or 20.minutes. you'll get foxes at a handy depth with them but I wouldn't be digging 6 foot to them. It suits me as I want them hunting. If you are serious about digging from what i have seen of my own teckels, a terrier from proper working lines would be a far better choice. But as you know even the best of lines throw duds.

As I said I hunt with a very good pack of hounds. Again judging by my teckels hounds do a better job if you have the country to hunt and the space to kennel them

But for what I want my teckels suit me perfectly. Hunting heavy ditches and small covers. They are small and easy to kennel, which is a big plus for me. They are pleasant dogs to have around the place and make good pets.

As I always say about mine, they're no world beaters but I knock a bit of craic out of them. And as I'm the one feeding them and picking up their **** once they keep me happy that's all that matters.

Please dont let this get into which breed is better, that wasnt the purpose. Just keen to learn more about this fascinating breed.

For what you are using yours for, I think they absolutely excel. Every single one of ours would rather be allowed to find, flush and hunt - and keep hunting, than anything else 👍

Hey SikaSeeker - no problem and I apologise if I came across blunt, I simply meant that it's no problem if you did not agree - nothing more boring than agreement.

I like the video for a few reasons. Firstly the dog is showing bravery, tenacity and voice - he doesn't give in and he keeps the voice. Those are two things that the breed needs to keep boar on the move and the voice lets the hunter know where the dogs and hence quarry are.

Secondly I just like watching my mate try to grab his dog without getting hurt :)

My 2 are from a line of working dogs from the north east of England
All worked underground on various estates.

Took my 2 idiots to the Jed forest hunt dog show today and they cleaned up 😂
First in the under 12 months , first in the any breed dog and took best in show overall hahahaha
 
Otto is now demonstrating the method of removing a whole yolk from a boiled egg,( regular and repeatedly) ... without making more than two fragments of white.

This looks like a gatter, probably spelt wrong. I have visited one in Germany and seen the scent hounds work a trail. It's basically a large fenced in area with tame boar, but the dogs don't know they're tame .
As Keith says the dogs are assessed on a variety of things once they come into contact with boris.
I've seen them on driven hunts strapped with a kevlar vest,,gps and let loose. Just fast enough to move animals but not catch them.
I know some of Nick valentine's pack went over to Ireland I believe, and there's a good group on Facebook promoting the working Teckel.
Mine will be 10 yrs old and has never shown any sign of aggression towards anyone or anything. He's also great with my autistic nephew. I did manage to loose him for a week while stalking in the highlands, he's since become more clingy but still does what he wants, when he wants and on his terms.
 
Someone I shoot with regularly imported one from east Europe ( poss Slovakia ) the thing is unbelievable at finding deer and hanging on, irrespective what the size is- may be to bold to get old - Downside - no recall whatsoever and will try and kill any strange dog that comes within reach off it- good with people though 👍.
