Truck insurance

Seems the world has gone mad, insurance premiums just going up and up, one broker even said as a result they’re seeing lots of folk not insuring at all, which is only going to worsen the situation.

Anyway, that aside, I’m so bored of punching in my reg only to get the “sorry your vehicle is a commercial vehicle and doesn’t meet our criteria” or worse still not getting that message, completing pages of forms only to get to the end to be told the same.

So, who are folk currently using? I’ve tried Adrian Flux, LV (current policy is with them), and our broker got me a quote from Aviva and one other firm I’d not heard of, it pains me that 5 years ago my premium was half what I’m being quoted currently. I’m in my 40’s, held my license over 20 yrs, never had an accident that was my fault (only ever had one and that was the other driver going into me) no points so why am I being penalised….Any suggestions appreciated.

Try dual policy with 1st Central. Renewal for my truck this year was £75 (albeit only for 5000 miles) and I also have a Golf R on that policy and the whole thing is comfortably under £600 and my vehicles are kept outside on the street. I don't have a driveway let alone a garage or any other security. Sleepy village in the middle of nowhere.

I was amazed. The truck was nearly £150 last year, so I have no idea why it has halved this time round. I expect they will hit me for a million quid when the Golf R renewal comes up. Which would be close to how much I spend on fuel through the bloody thing

Mine is insured on the same policy as my car with LV. When I bought it a few months ago I already had two cars on my policy and wanted to replace one car with the pickup, rather than f*** about with the internet I just phoned LV, I nearly fell off my chair when they said that after applying an admin fee, I was eligible for a refund as the pickup premium was less than for the crappy old Astra estate that I was getting rid of.

Over a grand for me for a 15 plate hilux
This is close to where I ended up.

Adrian Flux quoted me £620 to start with, and I paid (after Admiral quoted me £1200).

Four days later, they phoned up to say ‘actually, we’ve checked the details on your vehicle, and it’s going up to £950’. Protracted argument ensued…

It’s utter madness and is only going to get worse if more people are opting for being reckless and not paying for insurance at all, clearly that’s not something I would even consider so some greedy insurer will be getting my money but it’s ridiculous I’m paying more now than when I was a spotty oik with zero experience and an understandably higher risk.

Admiral hiked my premium by over £450. They said it was because I’d made a claim.

Indeed I had - but the other driver had admitted full fault and the work was paid for by their company. So it turns out that even if you’re not at fault, they’ll still sting you.

From memory I just went through one of the comparison sites. Personal & business use, fully comp with wife as an additional named driver. Last years was £300, renewal was a more but not much. Quick check around and ended up cheaper than last year - this all took place around February

My insurance for a 16 plate Ford ranger just hiked up to £1200 for the year from £1000 last year with no claims not quite sure how that works
