Hornady brass

Hi all, I wasn’t really planning on having another centre fire but when my mate decided to sell his sako 75 I thought it was too good an opportunity to miss. However, buying this, plus having a fair spend up at the stalking show has meant my stalking purchasers need to hit the buffers for a few months. Luckily I have a couple of hundred once fired hornady cases in stock, and powder and primers too. However after resizing them today I’ve found them to be wayyyy too long. Like 2.065 and a few even over that. I know they are once fired, and they are uniformly long. My question is is this common with Hornady brass, is it common it stretches a lot?
I can’t really justify spending more money on Gucci brass right now so I’d like to use it, but I’m wondering if this is a common theme, I can’t handle trimming on every loading!
What do people reckon? I know it’s not the best, but will it keep stretching?

Test with a couple of cases and you'll soon know for sure. Not knowing what cartridge you're talking about makes it quite hard to realise how far out of spec 2.065" is.

I've never trimmed any cases after each loading and firing. Once it gets to the oal length, then trim. Should be good for a few firings.

I use hornady brass for my 22250. its fine. Trim it every now and again. Use it till it dies then buy ppu brass.

Trim it 10 thou short of max and you’ll be good for a few firings, more if you neck size.

Hornady cases usually has more internal capacity, and thin walls. Stretching more than thick walled LC or GGG. Can handle moderate loads very well, however short living with maximum charge.

It may be (if these once fired cases were fired in the rifle in question) that the chamber is cut on the longer side, allowing the cases to stretch as far as they have.
As mentioned, Hornady can be 'softer' and thinner than some cases.
However, normal reloading sequence should incorporate case length measuring and trimming to size, so I wouldn't be too concerned.
I would imagine that you would get at least 5-7 firings with a moderate charge before you have to discard (and probably due to loose primer pockets rather than thinning of the case due to flow).

Maybe they where long before firing. Get them trimed and continue. I've had 5 reloadings so far have been trimmed but better than federal brass

I have found this too with Hornady Brass. All of my brass are from factory rounds and I have fired them so can safely say they have not previously been reloaded. I measured them prior to reloading them and they were all way above overall trim length. Going to trim them down, but I have been told its quite common with Hornady brass due to soft cases.

About 5.
I'm use to primer pockets going slack first.

Might be coincidence but it's the first time I used Hornady brass and a first time to get a separation.
I'm use to seeing an occasional ring appearing on any brass and discard it but the one that failed had no visible ring!

I used Hornady when it was all you could get for the 6.5CM, 2-3 loadings and primer pockets started loosening.
Switched to StarLine and never looked back

I’m not having that issue with mine after 4/4 firing in 6.5 Creedmoore. Are you using Federal Primers? I found those a tad tighter than anything else

No, none at all. It shot three rounds all touching each other the other day and I was not really trying! ( Maybe I am trying too hard I wonder...!).
