Any pipe smokers on here?

Never mind Frenchie, just sat here after lunch watching goldfinches and smoking a bowl of Kendal black cherry and thinking of you. I am now thinking of cessation after this tin but will enjoy every last bit of it.😇
 
After I saw this thread I’ve only gone and bought another new Peterson… Wanted a larger pipe as I prefer the feel and don’t hang very much between my teeth. Hopefully it’ll arrive at some point this week and I can try some new tobacco at the same time.
 
I always thought about taking it up. Stopped the fags. An older gentleman near me has the nicest smelly sweet tobacco out of his pipe. Any recommendations for a really sweet tobacco?
 
So I know it's more of an "old man" kind of thing, but I used to smoke a churchwarden back in my early 20s (as opposed to my current late 20s😅🫣).

I quite quickly worked out that cigarettes didn't really do anything for me, or were to my taste. Still occasionally have a tempting too get it out, but not enough to justify going to buy a bag.

I'll second the Cherry and Vanilla or alternatively Black Cherry Exclusive, you certainly will not regret either. Both of them are fairly mild / not overpowering (Another way of saying without ripping the back of your throat out) and they both leave a very pleasant aftertaste! If I were ever to start with my pipe again it would be with nothing buy Black Cherry Exclusive - Pure bliss!

I wouldn’t go with ennerdale first up…being a Lakeland it’s quite an acquired taste with the rose geranium/floral notes. It is however what a lot of old codgers would have smoked (st Bruno, erinmore) so the smell will be familiar….

I think it’s more likely it would have been something like black cherry or black cherry and vanilla as mentioned above. To be honest starting out I’d go to a good tobacconist and buy a cheap basket pipe or a corncob and then ask to take a big sniff of whatever name in the loose stuff in jars takes your fancy, ‘peach cobblers’ ‘American delite’ etc etc and then buy a small amount.

Just to say smoking a pipe is quite hard and takes practice! It’s a great hobby though and by far the best way to sample quality tobacco. I love it and there is nothing finer than deluxe navy rolls 😃

Thought I had posted a reply in here guess not, as already said by a few GH cherry and vanilla, black cherry for English blend I prefer Old Dublin or navy rolls.
Not been smoking very much recently but I’ll be breaking the pipes out soon as beating starts this year 😀

I used to be all about black cherry until I bought cherry vanilla in error. My next visit to the shop-of-smoke I'll buy some of both. The best thing about my shop-of-smoke is it has a traditional buy-a-quarter-measure sweetshop attached. Army & Navy, Winter Mixture, Rosy Apples, to name a few faves.

I just ordered an Erik Nording compass pipe along with some HG Exclusive Black Cherry & Coffee and Caramel tobacco amongst other bits and pieces.

Finally quit the cigarettes back in February and have been looking at the various pipes and tobacco for a while now. Let’s see what it’s all about.
 
I followed a young lad along the pavement sucking away on a vape, I swear it was Black Cherry and the aroma fairly started me salivating 😂😂

Back in the day I smoked a lot of Black Cherry and used to load two Petersons before starting on a road trip , simply reaching for a fresh pipe instead of stopping, they were good days.

I used to love Player's No Name but that went out of production a very long time ago (late 1970s?). Shame, it was rather like smoking plum pudding.

If you had a friendly word with those clever people at JJ Fox at the bottom of St James' they may be able to help...a lot of blends that were discontinued were in fact picked up / copied by others, but under different names. Premium Pipes and Pipe Tobacco | James J. Fox
