Taurus 44 magnum large pistol primers equivalent.

I'm using federal primers in my taurus 44 with no problems i tried cci and would have 3 or 4 in 10 rounds f.t.f. dint the primer but no detonation

after some searching, a few American site have said that federal primers are softer ( more orientated to pistols ? ) i have adjusted hammer spring etc and the same outcome
is there and alternative " softer " primer as I'm struggling to get federals and what are you guys using in your 44 mag taurus

Are you using pistol primers or rifle primers. Can you be specific with exactly which primer you are using?

Way back in time when our lords and masters permitted us to be trusted with pistols for competition shooting Federal were always considered the go to primer as they were the softest followed by Winchester. CCI and Remington were bottom of the list.
As Selous asked, you aren't trying to use large rifle primers are you?

I use Magtech large pistol primers in my .44 mag Taurus and they work perfectly well.

How’s the wear on the transfer bar?

My previous Taurus .357 was terrible with lot of FTF, lot of wear on the bar, swapped it out and I’ve not had a problem in thousands of rounds.

That’s good news as spares are non-existent.

You can adjust the hammer tension which may help with harder primers, more tension may solve your problem.

Tried adjusting the tension didn't make much difference really would still get 1 or 2 f.t.f per 6 rounds a club member has the 357 version he had the same problem after making up some home load with cci primers on Saturday night.
With luck magtech might work and or federal will start to reapear

I use large rifle primers but not magnum ones.

Works in my 44 lever action too

Small rifle primers for my 38/357 lever actions

I only use cci magnum small pistol for all of my full fat .357 loads and have used cci non magnum for gallery loads and I’ve never had an issue. Not since changing the transfer bar.
