CCI primers and misfires....

Ok so recently I'm getting consistent misfires but only since using a single pack of CCI primers I got from an unknown source. I have no idea of how they have been stored.
That said I'm now getting plenty misfires.

Today I primed three cases. One I primed with a German primer, the CCI in question and another CCI from a completely different ere.
Firing them in an empty case and muzzle in a rag the CCI giving me misfires was the weakest report!
I repeated the test and it was the same. In fact, the the other era CCI primers were the strongest!
In the past I've had issues with CCI primers, large and small.
I want to ask the collective, has anyone else had issues with CCI primers?
Never ever had issues with Remington of federal in my life!

Hmmm.
Used them in their thousands for many, many years in rifles from .222 up to 8mm and in-between without any incident so I suspect poor storage is the problem.
Hope you get it sorted - I would bin them.

Perhaps how they were stored? Try drying them out. Airing cupboard for a few weeks? I store mine in an air proof nato ammo tin with some desiccant inside.

Used many 10's of thousands of cci primers. Don't recall a single failure.
I store them in the warm/dry.

If they have been stored in damp conditions, that might affest them. Though I accidentally put a whole batch of primed brass through the wet tumbler. Dried them out and loaded them, as I'm tight. They all fired off fine! (Was only 38spl plinking rounds, would not have done that otherwise.)

Any oil contamination will kill them dead though. So oil from the press or on fingers when handling them, can be a problem. Also any stray case lube.

I did buy some cheap primers that were sold as water damaged after a basement flood. The only ones that failed were obvious, as they showed corrosion marks where they were in contact with the packaging. Those I loaded and kept separate and snapped them off as an empty case to test.

Thanks gents.
Time, I need time now to test the next batch of ammo on a different pack of primers.
Should the next batch prove reliable these troubled primers will be destroyed.... somehow.
I'm not bad mouthing CCI. I've also used thousands of them.

Update. Loaded three rounds with the different batch of CCI last night and just shot them.
8.5 gn of Herco and a donated 150 gn bullet.

No misfires!

It looks like I'll ditch the other primers....any ideas on the best way to achieve that?
I'll wait until I've shot slot more though just be sure.

I tend to dispose of crap primers and primed cases my putting in a jar of oil and leave them to soak.
Or if I feel silly, into the woodburner and listen to the popping (one without a glass door or fire brick!)

Long, long ago there was a bad lot of CCI small pistol primer imported into the country that caused huge problems for an awful lot of shooters. Neither CCI or the importers were at all interested in resolving the issue, so ever since then I have only ever purchased CCI as an absolute last resort. For the last 20 odd years I've tended to buy European brands.

That is why I asked, I'm not wanting to trash CCI but they are the only primer I have had issues with.
Interesting stuff....

Even old primers, tend to be fine if stored correctly.
When the pistol ban came in in the late 90's, it was also suspected that there may be some restrictions coming in on hand loading. (Hmmm, that is sounding familiar!) So I stocked up. I'm still working through those stocks 25 years later.
Have seen zero issues so far.

Though it was a shock when I saw the prices of primers now. They were £18 / 1000 when I brought them!

You could always sell them at discount - caveat emptor.

Someone wlse may have no issues at all

Otherwise as above - into a jar of oil.
