Blimey it’s a bad year for them around here! Hate the bloody things and considering moving the UV fly zapper thing into the chiller to see if that’ll pull them off the carcasses!

While of the skin or this red covered in them (been in the chiller for about 4 days and they are still very active!). Those black bodies are all keds

I've often considered sticking an ozone generator in a chiller for a small amount of time. As long as no living animal is breathing it in, it should do no harm in theory but will nail all parasites, ticks, keds, bugs etc in a very short space of time in an enclosed space. An hour would be plenty I reckon in most confined spaces like a chiller.

Does anyone know if it would harm meat?

I often use an ozone generating UV bulb in empty fridge and chiller to remove minor smells which it does very successfully. Never considered using it on a carcass. Seems it’s very safe and kills e.coli and salmonella.

Yup this year has been bad for them up on our ground.
I'm a ked magnet it would appear.

Tried this for a couple of hours earlier - not a single ked made the effort to zap itself so that's a disappointment.

Sure, but they shed their wings as soon as they land on a deer. So they can't fly off a deer carcass and into your zapper.

I'm my local area I've only seen them in decent numbers on reds .But the last roe buck and fallow pricket I had last week both had them in good numbers.

Not all insects are attracted to uv, crawling generally arent. I would think keds arent

Bugger of a job to skin a ked. Have you seen how small they are?

Tried it, one hour of ozone generating uv bulb. No keds on skinning next morning. Can’t be sure it killed them but had definitely seen one on the carcass.

Me too! Came home wearing a couple from a buck last week.
