iOS App

I've noticed that, when I access the Site via Safari on my iPhone, one of the options it shows at the bottom of the main menu is "Install the App":

XenForo.webp

When I click on the "Install" button, it comes up with a series of screenshots walking through the install of XenForo. However when I look in the App Store the only app that shows is XenForo Reader at £7.99.

Is this the app being referred to?

No, you don’t need to install XenForo Reader.

That is just an example to indicate the process of adding SD as an app on your phones home screen.

If you go to the homepage of SD, select the entire website address - press ‘share’ - scroll down and there’s an option ‘add to home screen’ - select this and job done ☺️

Many thanks for this.

A PWA is useful, but seeing XenForo, I was wondering if @csl had discovered a way to have SD appear alongside other online forums a member might be subscribing to. IIRC we used to have that through Tapatalk, and there are other similar apps like Topic'IT.

When subscribing to several forums on different sites it's quite nice to be able to access them all through one front-end app, rather than through individual PWA's on your phone.

I see!

I wasn’t aware of this so I could indeed be wrong. But I’m sure we will get some clarification from @csl shortly ☺️

As said above, you have a choice of using a web browser (so you can have multiple forums open) or PWA (a separate app). :thumb:

Thanks Alex.

Is the “Install the App”/XenForo option on the iOS menu redundant then?

What’s lacking with the browser or PWA options is support for multiple fora in a single App. I can understand if that’s not worth pursuing as an option, as it’s probably of limited appeal.
