You are never too old to try something new.

It's named for the former Imperial hunting-supremo Hans-Heinrich XI of Pless; who seems to have had this pattern of horn used on his estates, and which started to bear his name about 1880.
An interesting family - Daisy Cornwallis-West married his eldest son, and and thereby later became Daisy, Princess of Pless.

The hunters who had passed their test exam were inducted with due pomp into the world of hunters yesterday, my horn group played for them first in the church then in the large gasthof, I am at the back on one video with a white shirt and a tie the others had no ties. They are all whatsapp videos so if anyone on here knows how to load them into SD format I will do it.

An update to the saga. I am now in two blaser (playing) groups, the original one that I used to go to just listen to from 2005ish. I am in it now as a frischlinge player, plus the other one that invited me to come play with them back in February.

You’d mentioned earlier that you’d had some experience with the trumpet early in life - if you hadn’t have had that earlier musical experience do you think it would still have been possible to succeed with the horn when taking it up much later in life?

I’ve no practical musical experience myself nor have I ever had any interest in learning an instrument but the Fürst-Pless does appeal for various reasons. I just wonder if learning it is a realistic aim for a ‘non-musical’ chap.

Yes it is, we have some new folk like me one who is in his mid fifties and is just starting up. You need to be able to play / achieve the range of notes but they all are. It is not too hard but better to practice in a group. Should we start up a British one?
This we did today at 11:00am in Regensburg at the "Buck House" equivalent for Regensburg which is the seat of the Thurn & Taxis fifedom. They were bringing in & setting up the huge Xmas tree taken from their own forest for the annual Christkindlemarkt in The Princely Palace of St. Emmeram complete with press and TV. This first one will with google translate. I am on the right of the picture with the mid brown colour hat being fed afterwards.

Yes, I'd say, given 15-30mins a day, and a bit of application.
The basics (correct breathing etc) are the same as trumpet, cornet and so. I bought Gerhard Sowa's Halali book and CD, and also have some lessons with a trumpet teacher to make sure the basics were OK, and bad habits are mot getting embedded.

The rabbit hole just got much deeper.
I found this Parforcehorn in Es/B at the weekend. The asking price was the same as for a new Furst-Pless so now it is mine.
My group says it has a nice tone so all I have to do is learn how to make it play Silent Night.

Curiously, I was trying exactly that with my Eb/Bb Parforce just half an hour ago. I left it set to Eb and attempted hand-stopping to get the 'missing' notes.

I am so croc at the moment with manflu it is on the back burner for a few weeks.

Today I will play at my first ever jägers funeral, he was a forester 84 y/o.
Halali and jagd vorbei will be played by ca. ten of us.
Clear sky and three inches of snow lying on the ground so it will be chilly.
