Shooting Boots for Wide Feet : Meindl ?

Hi all,

It’s now time to change my Meindl Glockners after 6 years of regular abuse. The boots are still doing well with partly worn soles, but my feet is getting wider while I am being older hence I am struggling to getting into them.

I’ve been happy with Meindls after many years, and I was considering buying wider models, either Dovre or Guffert but I am seeing lots of negativity lately about Meindls’ quality gone down to the hill. Does anyone know if they sorted out these quality issues? I am also open to different premium hunting boots maker suggestions for wider feet.

Thanks,

My dovres starting to get a bit tired after several years, will be interested to hear too

Good friend of mine told me he wasted his money buying Menidl boots a couple of years ago as they didn't last more than a dozen hours of actual wear. I was surprised to be honest considering they are top dollar. Altberg do wide fitting boots and I can honestly say from experience they are well worth the money.

My Dovre Extreme are going well after 8 years, more importantly the 2 other pairs I bought, ankle boot and the lightweight ones are going very well and they were bought in the last 2 years. I have wide feet and always go up a half size in Meindl’s

I have wide feet and have found brand ecosse the best. Last longer than meindls too!

Alt berg do a wide fitting. I have some Kidson

I have a pair of three year old Alt-Berg Raby boots in a wide fitting. Very comfortable and lasting well. They can be made to your foot measurements at no extra cost as these boots were made to order.

Altberg defender boots. Mine are 10 years old, still keep the water out, are wide fitting and do the job well.

I would suggest you look at Altberg boots. They come in 5 width fittings. They are in Richmond W. Yorkshire. If you can take a trip to the factory shop where you will get a proper fitting with appropriate insoles etc.

Hanwag.
Better than Meindl and they have most models also in a wide version.
I’ve managed to try Hanwag’s Trapper and Tatra Top.
Trapper is quite good one but they don’t make them in wide last and in my opinion I don’t think Tatra Top model is as quality as Meindl Glockners or Dovres as they don’t look robust but this is my perceived quality with 5 mins playing with them.
However I’ve never tried Brenners which look good in the photos. I may get one of those.

My Meindl Dovre Extreme are 15 years old and very comfortable as they are a wide fitting.

Took them to the local cobblers last year who resoled them with new vibram soles.

I’m on my 2nd pair of laces from new !

Well worth the £250 initial purchase price 😃

I bought the Altberg Raby in a Wide fitting and have been very pleased with them:

Hanwag Alaska gtx wide, or Zamberlan Guide rr wide, the Zamberlan being used in the fields for work, a bit more comfortable than the Hanwag(and doesn’t squeak). On the other side the Hanwag feel more “solid”…

Got a pair of Dovres and I am bitten by Meindl for glue failure after only 3 outings. They are sent back to Philip Morris & Sons where I purchased them. Hope they handle the issue well won’t let me without the boots for months.
