Integrally Suppressed .308 Rifles

No weight on the A Tec integral

Looks like the sleeve at the barrel tenon is glued in place rather than the barrel threaded for fit on the mod

510g so a lot heavier than Freyr and Devik ultimate silence for example. Not that you would let one cross your threshold 😁

Not directly relevant to the OP but in terms of discussion: a subsonic centrefire set up would get the best out of an integrally suppressed rifle if the barrel is short, ported and the moderator is removable for cleaning. The load would need to be developed to bring the velocity just below the speed of sound in e.g. a .30cal. Coupled with a laser range finder ballistic drop scope it would be an interesting tool for the occasional, very specific purpose. In the mold of: MP5SD - Heckler & Koch

However, as interesting as this would be the total length is rarely a critical issue for stalking or fox shooting etc and so the marginal benefits of integral suppression are likely to be outweighed by cost, weight and maintenance (and legality limiting use due to minimum velocity etc for deer).

To get deer legal in the U.K. I think I worked it out you need a .50 cal 750g projectile for 1800 ft pounds of energy. Or a .45/70 shooting a 500gr projectile for 1200ft/lbs energy. Probably a 425gr projectile to make 1000ft/lbs but I haven’t got that in my software to check.

Would be pretty neat in a 12ā€ barrel rifle. Like you say with one of the digital scopes with built in range finder.

i know a guy who used 300rum cases shortened and loaded with a 750gr amax 50cal bullet to make a subsonic deer legal rifle

very interesting project

Sorry should have made it clear, it is aesthetics more than anything for me, I don't like the look of a silence on the end of the barrel, All my shooting is sub 200y so any degradation in performance would be negligible to me shooting such short distances.

How about rifle chassis, do you like them?

Chassis with closed forend (i.e. barrel protruding from the middle of a tube that is the forend) and overbarrel mod with long section over the barrel? Choose barrel length so that the transition from forend to mod is somewhat smooth?

would something like that still be offense to you?

have a heavy barrel shortened dramatically keeping in mind the energy legalities for the deer you want to shoot and then have the slimmest mod fitted so the transition doesn't stand out as much ?

you may need or want to relieve the stock to suit ?

probably the most economical solution and easiest to change back to normal if you wanted to ?

I like that

Form over Function
no more efficient that a well designed muzzle can or over barrel mod.
Also rots the exterior of the barrel if not stripped and cleaned every time, the constant stripping of mods is an issue in itself leaving seals compromised, threads worn and leading to gas leaks, hots spots, burns and potential breaches of outer shell
few examples on here of such......

The huge chamber is of value to cooling down the charge of larger cartridges but is wasted on 40+ gr of powder in a .308

far better matching the bore to calibre on a well designed over barrel

I like the idea of a Delisle carbine but for anything else I’d take a separate moderator, far simpler, easier to maintain, replace when shot out and no doubt much cheaper.

Why do you want an integrated mod?
I managed to get my mitts on one to look at, C.G Firearms (also trades as Ammo-zone) makes them, they even make a model with a rail (a little sacrilegious, but not too offensive), If i had the money and safe space, i'd be getting a variation for .45acp

That would be really good fun. Been thinking about a 45/70 bolt action rifle for a while now so I'll probably spend the rest of the afternoon looking at what might make a suitable donor.

Approaching rabbit hole at speed...

But you won’t get deer legal with a .308 at subsonic velocities. .308 would be a waste of time as a 300 black out would do the same thing.
