Good all round shooting coat

Hi all I know that this has probably been killed but my coat zip went while out on a very windy and wet wash! Not an ideal situation when you don’t take a spare!
So I’m looking for a good all round shooting coat that’s warm and dry.
I’m after honest reply’s from people that actually put them to use rather than a dog walker etc on google.
So what do you guys use? Don’t really want to spend over £250

Deerhunter Chasse is a good water/ wind proof jacket and not too thick. You can breath when walking about in it. Also priced right too

Hogs of Fife - Jackets - Got a shooting jacket about 2 years ago and has been happy with the outcome. I do layer up as required and has been happy so far ranging from high seat, walking in the rain and out in the wind. Just worth having a look if you wanted something to compare.

I am also a fan of the deerhunter stuff, I have other makes, but keep coming back to deerhunter.
However, rather than a warm coat, I subscribe to the good old layering system and keep the coat light.
I wear a puffer jacket Under the coat for warmth and the outer layer is very much for waterproof and wind proof.
I find it much more efficient that way. Speaking a someone who feels the cold,

When you say “shooting coat” are you talking driven shooting, rough shooting, wildfowling, deer stalking or something else?

For driven shooting on really wet days I still go with Musto, either their Highland or the Technical Tweed. But that’s for standing on a peg. For rough shooting I generally want something lighter, preferably with armpit zips, or the Nomad.

I was out on my Game shoot yesterday and the only one dry at the end of the day with a Deerhunter Gamekeeper Pro jacket on. I never understand how guns spend 1000's on a vehicle and only a few quid on a coat !!. When you work outside every day you soon learn although skin is waterproof your clothes are not !!

Here’s what I use, it’s UK made clothing that’s highly durable and extremely practical . I’d recommend the Avenger coat. They have a more domestic/ ‘fashion’ brand which is called Fortis, but it’s more expensive .

If you need something a bit smarter for fancy days out then try this Rascher clothing. extremely high quality Loden woollen nice clothes and more on the smart side of things.

Kindest regards, Olaf
