Bit came off Blaser R8 assembly when changing calibres

I feel the same when I tried to get some sling attachments for US size of slings. Germany office are helpful and they respond you right away but they want you to get hold of Blaser UK contact who wasn’t that responsive and keeps telling me to talk to my dealer.

I’ve always been an advocate of KISS with kit

Especially kit you rely upon in the bush

I’ve had nothing but excellent service from my Blaser platform

I do, though, appreciate the simplicity of the Mauser 98

That said, I’ve paid lots of money for 98 bolt actions that I’ve just had to throw away as they just would not cycle under pressure

Complexity or simplicity- nothing works perfectly

A manufacturer’s loyalty to its clients?

Now that makes the difference

Help needed

Was changing to .22LR on my r8 and a piece flew off

Don’t know where from, what it does, nor where it goes

Any suggestions??

I’ve looked at the schematics for the R8 bolt head and carrier assembly

Can’t see anything remotely like the part in the drawings

Have you checked the change barrel / mag insert etc for the 22RF

The part on RHs looks shiny - like contact with brass

I know I’m clutching at straws

Blaser were really helpful

Just told me to take the problem to my local dealer

Interesting level of support 😳
On the other hand if they give you advice and you don’t follow it exactly and end up with a face full of exploded bolt they would be looking at a law suit. Get it to a gunsmith who knows what they’re doing.

I've been studying them too. It's a head scratcher 🤔

Common mistake with a Mauser is to cycle the action muzzle pointing down. Muzzle up is best.
There are plenty reliable actions out there.
I'd have a large cz before I'd use a collet type lock up.

There are - however it is well known on PH and Guide courses that, all too frequently, even Bruno/Cz based rifle’s don’t cope with the drills required without modification

One of mine - built specifically as a stopping rifle - just couldn’t be corrected

I offered it FOC as a hunting rifle on the understanding that it couldn’t be relied upon 100%

It went to someone in either Greenland or Iceland

Hopefully the new owner was able to get it into shape

Assuming you’ve only removed the .22RF bolt head have you tried fitting a normal bolt head to see if it functions ( not live firing) you’ll then know it’s related to the.22 conversion and not the bolt carrier.

No such part in the barrel, not in the bolt assembly then must be something off the bolt head. I checked the bolt head yesterday which has a similar part right inside which is either rimfire firing pin or some kind of part guiding rimfire firing pin. Hard to confirm though it’s placed right bottom inside of rimfire bolt head which is hardly visible.

Is the blaser response really that bad? Ie, Take your complicated broken firearm to an authorised dealer so they can facilitate the repair or replacement part/parts and not put you or anybody else in any danger. I think thats pretty normal to be honest-would any other manufacturer of firearms do anything differently.

You could request that the dealer sends parcelforce to collect any licensable parts if travelling to a dealer is problematic.

I once had a problem with an R93 bolt head after shooting some over pressure ammunition, sent it to a Dealer, they fixed it, i paid. Messing around with blaser cocking/decocking mechanisms and fire control will get you a Darwin Award at best.

Yes

on reflection what else can they do but refer the problem to a local rep

That is in effect what they are doing

My reaction perhaps borne of frustration was, on reflection premature
