which pick up?

The contractors I know use Isuzu and hilux , with more leaning towards Isuzu.

The oil dilution is the let down for Isuzu but most do something about it and if it’s being hard used it often doesn’t become a problem.

The hilux is very hard on fuel.

28mpg knocking around and 33mpg on a motorway with mine , but I never bought it for good fuel consumption, I bought it to do its job . So yeah don’t buy one if you want to save fuel

Had one of the new Isuzus for three years. Absolutely brilliant. It has been my only truck though so can’t compare to others

My ‘13 hilly is nearing 200k and has had a couple issues:
Broken front springs x2, 1 broken helper leaf spring, new fuel flap cable, that’s about it really…and all springs broke because I treat it like it’s on a front line in a war zone.

Definitely will buy another, but not new, far too fancy with all sorts of crap- will try and find a good slightly used commercial off a fleet auction. They are the ones without all the ‘fancy bits’ like seat heating and mirrors inside the sunshades etc..

I would never entertain a ford, jeep, Nissan

I have a 2016 3ltr Hilux had some, MPG around 28, the MPG has improved by 6mpg after a good clean out needed after years of short journeys.

New hilux are absolutely awful always fancied one but the amount of works ones we are putting into dealer's for dpf faults, front crash detection faults, engine lights on is a joke plus they have them for weeks on end waiting for master technicians ect would not buy one with my own money
Where as the previous models without all the electrical gimmicks Where by far the best pickup on the market

Had a Navara, Isuzu and 2 Rangers 3.2 and 2.2 twin. Now running the 2.8 invincible. Rangers feel more solid and a better interior but in all honesty it's the Hilux overall. 30mpg at 30,000mls.Both Rangers were constantly back for warranty work.

What make/model is this please?
‘13 Hilux Vigo

Ex fleet purchase, got it at 50k miles for £12k 7 years ago, now near 200k miles. So simple to work on, do my own timing belts, fan belts, oil and fuel and air filters, brake pads, tighten rear brakes, and much more, saved a fortune in garage bills because they’re made so basic and user friendly

Oil changes are **** easy, 30 minutes and tightening handbrake cable is a 1 minute job. I will very much miss her when she’s gone, but I plan to take it to 500k or more before retirement

Unfortunately it’s the green agenda from governments that constantly pushing vehicles manufacturers to meet evermore emission controls that in turn result in higher maintenance intervals and unreliable engines requiring specialist attention all the main brands of pickup will have issues. as I believe we are being forced by the back door to go electric I’ve recently purchased a new pickup and expect some issues I personally went for the one I could afford my last pickup I had seven years trouble free motoring the one before that thirteen years trouble free both maintained and serviced regular. Never put of getting your vehicles well maintained it pays in the long run.

I have had 2 VW Amaroks, the 2.0L Bi Turbo and the newer 3.0L V6 Aventura. The Aventura was a lovely truck to drive but very expensive at nearly £50,000 and the dash was a bit plasticy.
I now have a 2018 Nissan Navara Tekna in a 6 speed manual which I turned my nose up initially but bought it as I needed something and I absolutely love it. Had it 2 years now, done 30k miles and it's been faultless. Comfortable, got everything inside I want, good on fuel (37mpg average), capable off road and my mechanic swears he sells lots of these and never gets them back. I always had "posh trucks" as a company director but I never used them for what they were intended for due to being new and shiny. But my 6 year old Navara is superb and I use it for what's its made for, driving me around, I can put my dogs in the back, fishing gear, carry 4-5 adults, tow, stick a rifle on the front seat, chuck logs in the back, get in the front with muddy boots and I will keep this until it dies.
I have just splashed out on new all terrain trees and am now about to "de chrome" it.
I much prefer the manual for off road driving and "work" stuff because automatics are lovely on the road but useless on the fields and we all buy a truck to use on the field?
My favourite truck was my old 2000 (V reg) double cab Ford Ranger. Loved that truck but I sold it to buy a van and start my business 12 or 13 years ago.

Interesting that you find the auto's useless on the fields, It sounds like you probably do more off-roading than me but I have never had any issues with the auto gearbox off-road

I think a lot of the issues with modern vehicles is that traction control kicks in instantly - with both auto and manual boxes.
I find it a right pain as sometimes you want 2nd gear and a bit of power, the "computer says no", which means you then gut stuck and have to engage 4wd and traction off to get out of the situation it out you in the first place!
Some of our estate is fine with an auto, but some of the lanes/rides are really wet and muddy and need a bit of skill/experience in how to manage it.
