Leica Amplus 6 vs Zeiss V6

Has anyone directly compared these two in 3-18x50? I already have one, but toying with the idea of a change. I know these things are subjective at times, but would the optical and build quality between the two be similar?

The Leica i Find a nicer more compact unit, the zeiss is a nice scope as well. I wanted the smaller objective for the rifle the Amplus will end up on. I only picked the Amplus yesterday. Hopefully zeroing Sunday and possibly a late afternoon stalk.

Brilliant cheers guys. Yeah think smaller objective would suit the lightweight rifle I’m putting together. Illumination a nice bonus too! Main concern was that optics wouldn’t be as good, and the slight weight increase in the Leica.

Leica Amplus series does not compare with Zeiss V6. The V6's are better by a mile. Leica Fortis is the equivelant.
Amplus and Zeiss V4 are in a similar league.

Are the leicas ffp?
Not the Amplus range. They are SFP as far as I know.

I have a 3-18x44 Amplus with the L-4w reticle. I agree with Steph that the Amplus glass, to my eyes, is definitely not as good as the Zeiss V6 but it is better than the V4 in my view. It is not bad glass by any means but it does not offer the same contrast as my March scope nor the impossible brightness of the T96 I have. But then those scopes are very expensive in comparison. Honestly, I think my Delta's are are on par with the Leica Amplus glass, possibly actually better although both are bigger objective lenses, so that might be swaying it but those Delta scopes are very very good for the money. They don't however offer the same utility as the Amplus unit.

I will not be getting rid of the Leica though for the simple reason that in this format, they have produced something that I cannot find anywhere else. A smaller scope with a 44mm objective, adjustable and good quality elevation turret but capped windage. At the same time, it has the perfect mag range for a .22CF rifle and the reticle is also perfect. When holding for wind, I am basically shooting at ranges comfortably over 150yds on small targets like crows/magpies, so using maximum magnification is normal but I don't want that to be more than x18. When topping out the mag, the reticle subtends correctly for easy 1MOA interval wind holds and all without being stupidly fussy. The vertical stadia is just a stright line and the horizontal stadia is just basic intervals. It is the perfect reticle and for the life of me I cannot understand why more scope producers do not get this right. They either do not offer enough mag, or too much and all while producing ridiculously busy reticles that are not needed by hunters. I like SFP scopes for hunting unless the mag range is usable without the reticle getting too small/big (which the 4-16x56 Polar does very well, so I have that in FFP) and this Leica does it all. It is also built very well and feels solid and ready to take the knocks. It is not in the optical league of the March and Schmidt but it is a properly good design that fits perfectly with my hunting applications on a .22CF that is shot at middle distances from say 100-400yds. Don't expect absolutely top tier glass but do expect it to do everything else very very well and without fault.

This was the assumption given the Amplus and V4 sit at a similar place in the respective lineups. Have you actually compared though, as so many people seem to say the amplus is comparable with better scopes?

V4 is nowhere near the Amplus mate. Absolutely nowhere near

Thanks, certainly seems like the Amplus is 'good enough'. The 3-18 as you say seems to offer the complete package, exactly what i'm looking for, so could forgive marginally poorer optics than the V6 if that really is the case in real world use. While I will find a use for a Polar eventually on one of my rifles, it's a bit heavy for this build!

I've just mounted the 3-18x44 on my 223 to get zeroed tomorrow.

It will eventually be put on my 6mmXC once my new rifle is ready. (It has the Leica PRS on it just now)

Looks great, should have dropped that brass off and compared the two!
Can arrange a meet over the hols if you like mate.

I have the PRS, 2.5-15 and the 3-18 you can have a look through

Also worth noting that McLeoeds have a sale on the 3-18x44 but with a Christmas tree reticle just now at only £800

Ah might take you up on that if I find time. Hell of a deal that! Wouldn’t be my first choice of ret but at nearly half price….

Yes, I have compared them. And unlike many people on here I do not rate the Amplus very highly.
