Stay safe out there chaps!

Get well soon!

Stuck myself in the leg years ago, very fortunate it was only a flesh wound, albeit deep, with little bleeding. Scary though. I was rushing in the larder as it was the first February evening roost shooting and I wanted to get away. Ended up in A&E instead

Sorry to hear this Tim - I think most of us who have done enough of this have had a similar moments but have been lucky enough to get away with it bar the inevitable "that could have been VERY serious realisation" after the event. Probably too far away to offer any practical assistance but please don't hesitate to ask. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery!

Thanks for all your kind words gents.
Just got home, but have to go quite far to another hospital tomorrow for surgery.
Sorry to hear this hope it all sorts itself out.
Once the dust has settled it would be good to know if there was anything you could have carried which would have helped. Think we all feel vulnerable when a fair way from the car.

Take care of yourself and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

And as you say, a wee slip can result in quite a bit of bother. Be careful out there.

Thanks for sharing hopefully no long term damage and good reminder, lots of inputs already on kit -

the most bang for your buck is a sub £10 trauma dressing - ideally treat yourself to two and practice using one then put it on the car as a spare (doesn’t to be sterile to be effective)
Then keep the non used one in your pocket - but now you know how to use it - plenty of YouTube videos on correct use.

First aid course is good with forestry / chainsaw added bit is good thing - first aid course most useful thing for you and family you will do - great when you never need to use the skills, but gives you a head start if you ever do.

You will need to keep that cut clean so no dishes washing over Christmas!

Hope you have a speedy recovery, when I had my little deer stalking knife 'incident' I was off work for 3 months (I milked it, a lot!) but having my wife drive me around, well it tested our relationship!
Good luck tomorrow

All the best for full recovery.
Heartening (not surprising) to see the SD community offers to help out.
Thanks for sharing, a salutary reminder to us all. If it can go wrong for a pro it can go wrong for any of us.
Note to self :
Review and expand first aid kitS
Re watch training vids
Cut proof clove for gralloch ( I butcher with one so should be able to the fiddly bits)

Happy healthy 2025 to all
