Shooting Boots for Wide Feet : Meindl ?

i have wide feet which are getting bigger with age (why does nobody warn you about things like this and hairy ears etc?) anyway i always found lundhags to be superb boots but not sure if they are still imported?

I have wide feet and find meindl wide fitting to be perfect, although recent QC seems to have tarnished the brand, might be worth getting your existing ones resoled.
Other wide fitting boots I have are
Scarpa, comfy and well made, slightly heavier as its a hiking boot,
Matterhorn, very comfy but soft and don't offer the ankle support of traditional boots
Le Chameau, a good all round boot, however I find the heel rubs a little
Gronell, if you can find a pair, very good boots but again, a little on the heavy side and depending on the model, can have a very stiff sole

Ones I'd avoid are merrell, although well made, I find these too narrow for my feet, or perhaps I don't have merrell shaped feet as my brother has no issue with them

Very few manufacturers make any footwear that is actually the shape of a foot. Even wider fit boots like Altberg still have a narrow tapered toe box.

I'm yet to find any waterproof wide fitting boots but I do have a pair of Bearfoot Bruin boots as they are handmade and can be resolved easily if/when they wear out.

He is a review of winter boots that are foot shaped so will likely fit your feet. Best Barefoot Winter Boots (2023) They are designed to strengthen your feet, ankles and ligaments so nothing like most hunting boots which act as a splint for your foot. Great for those who sit behind a desk all day and only walk at the weekends so need the support but overall not great for foot health.

I’m splatter footed according too my dad 😂 I’ve recently bought a pair of Grisport gamekeeper boots very comfortable I’m a 9 but went for a size 10 absolutely perfect fit as for longevity only time will tell.

that reminds me , i have vivo barefoot boots for most of my spring summer autumn stalking and was giving serious consideration to trying them in winter with a set of berghaus yeti attack gaiters ?

When it's dry I use generic versions of the Skinners Socks for stalking. It's amazing how much quieter in the woods I am when I can feel exactly where I am stepping. I also remain more balanced, especially when stepping slowly over obstacles.

I had meindl boots and they would not give up the ghost. So I still have them. I bought a set of Scarpa SL boots and find they are great.

However in the interest of adding something new to the thread you could take a look at vivobarefoot shoes. These are the ultimate in wide toe box shoes and boots and I wear them pretty much the rest of the time.

So at some point I will buy a set of these.

These are very comfortable boots, I have either plantar fasciitis or a Morton’s Neuroma in my left foot Podiatrist can’t decide, and the NHS waited ng list for a scan is extreme. These are the only boots which don’t cause pain. I have however sent them back today due to them splitting where the leather meets the sole after a month of limited wear. Vivi have been great so far, either a full refund or alternative boots offered in retun.

Ouch, plantar fasciitis is horrid. I developed it for a while whilst spending time in some particularly unforgiving work boots. In the end insoles and compression socks sorted it. Decent fitted insoles in walking boots can make the world of difference and if spending a lot I’d always head to a good outdoor store to get them properly fitted.

I have Meindl Dovre extreme
Wide fitting foot too

I find them very comfortable but after 2 years
Of less than heavy use they have issues I’ve just reported to meindl for support

Perished rubber between sole and upper
Sole started coming away from upper near toe on inside of foot

£308 I paid and I didn’t expect this
That said let’s allow them time to respond and I’ll judge them on that.

While I’m at it - don’t bother with thru dark
For all the SF rugged BS my ski coat ripped after one gentle outing. My arcteryx has done 10 years on and off piste - heli skiing you name it and it’s taken a beating. My new Thru dark coat did one week in resort on a very mellow family trip and has a hole in it and they don’t want to know. Never again

Taken from the Journal of Foot and Ankle Recovery.

Due to the continuity of the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon, (17,18,19,20) it can be assumed that decreased blood flow may be preventing healing not only of the Achilles tendon but of the plantar fascia as well. In the plantar fascia, however, the lack of blood flow may be augmented by footwear.

Modern footwear, which is often tight or narrow (21), can laterally deviate the hallux (22) which may consequently affect blood flow. A laterally deviated hallux may place the posterior tibial artery at risk for partial occlusion from impingement. Prior to supplying blood to the plantar aspect of the foot, the artery passes posterior and inferior to the sustentaculum tali of the calcaneus and then divides into medial and lateral plantar arteries deep to the abductor hallucis (1).

To put it simply, modern shoes aren't good for people's feet. They're too narrow in the toe area, pushing the big toe inwards causing that restricted blood flow and reducing your ability to balance effectively. Combined with a raised heel this makes the issue worse.

Just letting other people know; Meindl repaired the glue issue and sent the boots to me after 2 months having them and they failed again in 2 outings. I am now trying to return them for full refund. I've lost almost 3 months without using them when I needed them most.
Luckily I have my spare boots to wear...

Altberg and meindl have a great range in wide fittings, I have just bought the harkila reidmar boots which fit my wide feet well and I love the quick lacing system
