Lead update.

Living not far away and used to shoot at greenfields, apparently the developers took away the top metre of soil across the whole site and replaced in with clean top soil. No idea what happened to the contaminated solid.
More than likely went to a treatment facility where it had the lead washed out. Or went to landfill and someone made a lot of money, along with the tax man with land fill tax at around £85/T depending on how long ago!

The high prices make it not economic to continue and they dont all breakdown that quickly

They really do - sometimes less so
And TBH they are not much dearer than lead now
The game ones we are using are very close in price to the lead we had before

Was there this much fuss when 4* petrol was removed In 2000 due to the potential danger of lead?
There was - mostly from chaps with string backed driving gloves, handle bar moustaches driving MGB’s and old Jaguar saloon cars.

Mostly these cars have either rotted away, or are still running using unleaded petrol with Redex upper cylinder lubricant added to each refill, or have been restored with full engine overhall, which includes replacing valve seats, seals on carburettors etc that are suitable for modern fuels.

Lead is in more products and processes than the masses realise. This is purely an attack on shooting sports. Otherwise there would be a definite link to illness from eating shot game and there isn't. It's the usual over hyped yellow card by anti blood sport types.
there are plenty good studies in the use on indigenous populations who eat a lot of lead shot game with a much higher incidence of all the complications that arose from lead.

Nobody has done the work in the UK. The base data is there. Every shooter who holds firearms is flagged on their medical records. If you did a review looking for things like leukaemia, dementia etc compared with the general population there may well be some startling results.

An alternative study could be done on BASC members, or comparing say Danish ad UK hunters and their long term health.

But such studies would be expensive and unnecessary. It is already well understood that ingested lead from wherever it comes from is not good for you.

I don’t drink nearly as much as I did in the last years of school and then into college. Used to be out Thursday, Friday, Sat & Sun regularly.
Never smoked
Fats - it’s a given with my Polish heritage.
E’s avoid as much as possible - man made and not good like a lot of man made chemicals.
Salt’s been reduced but still use it.
Sugar - biggest failing but try and avoid as much as possible (packet of mini Maltesers with my nighttime cuppa is my refuge!)

How many people has lead affected and in what way?

There’s my wife’s b-in-law.
45 doesn’t drunk much (a lot less than I used to)
Doesn’t smoke, eats a lot less red meat (regular vegetarian meals) than I do.
Now in palliative care with oesophageal cancer.

All my grandparents and parents were into their 80’s and 90’s before passing (mum’s 89 but suffering from dementia).

The response should be proportionate to the actual risk, not perceived risk.
If you go be perceived risk, people wouldn’t be allowed to drive.

There also equally may not be. I've just returned from my 87year old ex gamekeeper friend. He rides a bike for miles most days. He had some of my venison off me...again.
I know dozens of shooting men in their 70 and 80.
Some of our friends on here have shot all their lives and not had what the fear mongers suggest.

What I do know is that I stopped smoking because it can be proven harmful but bizarrely not illegal. Heavy drinking, proven harmful, not banned. Riding motorbike, not banned.
Eating game shot with lead, no links to illness proven but it's being banned.
Excuse me but bollocks.
Sorry.

soooo, the 1000 plus lead ,plastic wad 12 bore cartridges i own are now worthless or is there a compensation scheme to claim the £385 back from . over to the basc.<who started all this lead ban crap>
