Barrel change

I’ve a Tikka T3 .223 Varmint heavy barrel and looking to get a lighter standard barrel.
Would I need to apply for a 1 to 1 variation or apply for a grant of another .223 barrel !

If you’re having the barrel changed and not keeping the old one then you don’t need a variation, the gunsmith can just take the rifle off you and return it with the new barrel fitted.

You would need to keep to the same chambering and not be unlucky and have the serial number on the barrel.

No need for anything if the barrel is being removed and disposed of

The new barrel can be marked with the serial number of the weapon or part number of the old barrel

As far as authorities are concerned you still only have one barrel on your weapon f that designation nothing has changed

Rather than going through a full barrel change would it be possible for the barrel to be turned down to a lighter profile, or have it fluted.

There will be a noticeable gap between the stock and the new barrel.
Will you be happy with that?

Have you explored the options of a trade in for a standard weight T3?

M
Yes I have ..but that would trigger me applying for a variation..this route could be fairly long in the current licensing era!

Possible but costly as you would need to reproof, JR firearms who does a lot of fluting won't (from memory) flute a factory barrel. Might as well get a better quality barrel fitted to a spec you want, or the cheaper option, pokey drill

When I purchased a semi-auto shotgun last year it came with two barrels - I was a bit surprised to learn I had to apply for and receive a variation for the identically numbered second barrel before I could take said second barrel home - still not sure why….

Was it a multi shot ie fac section 1 ? I had that problem when I bought a A 5 on fac and also had the barrel and parts from a section 2 A5
